IRVING — Henry Melton hasn’t played during the preseason. And he’s not certain he’ll be in action Thursday in the team’s final exhibition game against Denver. But the defensive tackle, the Cowboys’ prized free-agent acquisition of the offseason, insists he’s healthy after recovering from a groin injury he suffered earlier this month.

Melton hasn’t appeared in a game since last September, when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

“I’m feeling great,” he said. “Just trying to get better every day, work hard and be a beast for the season.”

Seems like another player in a long slew of players who didn't want to play in preseason games...

What's it going to be then, eh?

Get him some snaps against lesser competition just to get some legs. He'll probably start with the 1s but he may also not play at all.

So what would snaps against lesser competition do? I fail to see why you would bother.

Play with the starters, get to know at least a little what you will be working with.

Him playing with the second string players is not going to do much.

This is one guy who's got sufficient incentive to play well this season. Whatever gets him there, I'm ok with. I doubt he's taking it lightly, either way.

I'd rather save him along with all the other vets over 26.9999 for Game 1...

It doesn't matter much at this point whether or not he plays with the 1s or 2s as long as he gets some football snaps. He goes against our 1s already.

I think we've overhyped him a bit. He would be extremely lucky to get close to Hatcher's production from last year.

Good point. I do not think it is reasonable to expect more. In fact, I would be very happy considering we signed an injured player because he was cheap.

i think he is a bit better than Hatcher at his peak but he is coming back from a major injury and it may take a year to get back his full strength.
