OXNARD, Calif. – As training camp wears on, the Cowboys’ coaches are looking for the rookies to establish their identity in practice and games. Xavier Woods is doing just that.

“He’s one of those players that when he put the pads on, he became a different player,” Garrett said. “We saw that. He was finding his way a little bit in the spring, learning what we’re asking him to do. But ever since we’ve been out here and we’ve put the full gear on and practicing and playing in these games, you really see a more aggressive, physical player.”

Woods never got the workout numbers. He never got the credit for what matters, his play, down to down on the field.

And unlike others in our past where their combine numbers or whatever were the criteria, he was a "football player" pick that always passed the test for people who actually watched him and knew what they were looking at.

Dude I called this during OTAs!!! A good portion of Woods game can only be evaluated in pads. Look at his tape in college he's super physical.

Unfortunately, so many players never have the chance to show what they can do when the lights come on.

Glad he's making the most of his opportunity when it counts

I was hoping we'd take him in the 4th round, and I really was 50/50 whether he'd make it there.

The fact we got him in the 6th feels like robbery.

Got him for next years 5th if I'm not mistaken......I won't lie and say I saw a lot of his games in college but I do know a lot of mock drafts had him anywhere from the 3rd or 4th or 5th round. Great value.

You'll need to find the date of your post to see who wins because I made the statement during OTAs that we would need to see him in games because even the padded but no tackling practices in TC wouldn't really show his best attributes and the no Pads OTA practices definitely wouldn't.
