Eh I don’t think Gallup nets us more than a 3rd due to the sheer depth of WR’s in the league. I shop him and if he can’t get me at least a 2 then I keep him, hope for a deep run in which he contributes to, and nab the 3rd round comp pick anyways.I don't mind this approach. I just hate when they do it after Dallas has a really good season. That's when they should approach the off season with a plan to get over the hump. Not completely detach themselves and proceed with the SOP.
We're going into this season with a good amount of one year rentals. They also include players on our team on their last year. Gregory, Gallup, LVE if they don't pick up his 5th. If the team has a very good season (doubtful) next year, and in large part due to them, they'll be gone to FA.
Right now is probably the cheapest they can sign Gregory and Gallup. Gallup will still be expensive. He should be signed or traded, not allowed to play out his last year.
Boy, that would been a perfect moment for a reporter to reply "Then why do you treat Free Agency like a garage sale?"."The truth is, most anything I've ever been involved in that ended up being special, I overpaid for. Every time," Jerry Jones said. "Any time I've tried to get a bargain, I got just that. It was a bargain in a lot of ways, and not up to standard."
However, rinse, wash, repeat every year during free agency even if there is talent at a position of need. Hazmat suits for the toxic dumpster dive year after year even though the owner admits he gets what he pays for when he doesn't overpay. Oh Jerry...sigh

the brutally honest call it dumpster diving
With an occasional visit to Goodwill
And once in a great while a visit to Family Dollar

15 or so spots lower in the round would be worth it to see what the band can do all together potentially one last time.
I wouldn’t mind that one bitMy opinion, I hope Jerry signs him to an extension before the season starts.
The vast amount of rookies need time to develop.Let's start with the realization that the Cowboys "method" of roster building that Helman is talking about here has resulted in flawed rosters and a team that hasn't been much of a postseason threat over the last decade. Helman himself points out that the process hasn't been successful either.
Take DT for example. It appears the Cowboys sign depth guys and then think the draft will solve their issues. The flaw in this thinking is that it's not easy to find a kid in the draft that will make an immediate impact. Look at our last two DTs drafted - Hill and Gallimore. Both clearly needed more time to develop (if they develop at all) so I am perplexed by this logic that they draft will solve their problems so signing JAGs for depth is the smart way to go.

Someone should post this next year as FA begins. Because it will be the same story all over again.I am convinced that there's a handbook somewhere within their front office - "5 Steps to a Cowboys' Offseason"
