I don't understand what the problem is.. Most people were not aware of this rule until Sunday.. Now that we've seen it, we think it stinks.. Yes partly because it screwed our beloved Cowboys.. but also because it stinks. The NFL has figured out that certain rules stink dozens of times since I started watching.. Remember when two offensive players could not touch the ball after it was thrown unless a defensive player touched it in between? They figured out that was a stupid rule and they changed it. Remember when a defender could slap an offensive lineman upside the head? They figured out that was a stupid rule and they changed it. Remember when guys could whack each other in the face while blocking, rushing the passer or covering? They figured out that was a stupid rule and they changed it. Remember when defenders could lead with their helmet when hitting an ball carrier? They figured out that was a stupid rule and they changed it.. Same with the offensive player leading with the helmet. Remember when players were not required to wear any pads except shoulder pads and helmets? They figured out that it was stupid to have million dollar a game athletes out for bruises that could have been prevented by simply wearing the pads they had been issued. So again.. they changed it. I could keep going all day.. The game is ever evolving.. I've stated many times this one won't change until it screws one of the favored teams in the playoffs.. But just because we seldom see a rule impact a game doesn't mean it doesn't stink. IMHO this one clearly does.
