I think you better pray that some of these young guys work out before the end of the year cause Stephen is not going to bring in any of these
old vets sitting on the couch. They have made the decision to give the young guns a chance and are going to mine that hole until it comes up
dry.

Sounds like a plan that isn't based upon sports clippings and media feeding frenzy...

I am all for letting the young guys play. I just dont have great confidence that Jones is good at drafting. At some point, one of these wild gambles on players in the 2nd round is going to pan out great. But it seems to far and few between.

Do a little homework before issuing an arrest warrant...

You could be exactly right and if Romo gets hurt this year we'll be picking in the top 5 again next year just like the Cleveland's of the world. Just another
summer of Cowboy's soap opera.

Life is wonderful.

But lets turn those tables around for a minute. If you are having a ball with 4-12 seasons then how bad does your life sock? :muttley:

Then it's time for a new coach who isn't dependent on keeping a few stars healthy to win some games.

Rob: I wasn’t here in 2014 but I can tell you there’s a similar assessment of this year’s roster from outside observers. The offense looks as complete as it’s been in many years, but defensively they again don’t have a pass rusher who’s produced a double-digit sack season. Stephen Jones believes this defense looks better than the group two years ago in part because Sean Lee didn’t play in 2014 due to injury, Byron Jones wasn’t on the team and Tyrone Crawford has two years’ more experience at this point.

So the offense is better than the 2014 version.

The defense is better than the 2014 version.

Um, we were the best team in the league in 2014, I'm convinced of it. So this all sounds pretty good to me. LOL.

Thing that bothers me about this kind of thinking is that is it pure projection.

Well, he has traits we like, but never produced facing competition on the field.

It is a tough sell.

Every player drafted is being projected as to how they will play.

Relating football fandom to life is idiotic to say the least. I just have higher standards than you . And you clearly dont care enough to get pissed about it. Lets just leave it at that.

Why would you even bother coming on here if its not to talk with differing opinions and see different points of view. This isnt a fan club. Do you want reality, or do you want pom pom waving?

He only has to sell himself to the scouts and defensive coaches. Evidently they liked what they saw in him. Fans on the other hand have their own agenda, right now unless the Cowboys select a player a fan likes that move will be questioned and scrutinized. It is understandable but in the end I think having scouts and DC feeling good about the player is what matters.

The point I was making which you apparently did not acknowledge is that regardless of what the scouts and coaches think, it is still a projection.

They believe he was misused on Oklahoma's defensive system. But they are projecting he will be a great fit in this system.

But that is the pitfall of projection based on traits, it is a guess. Feeling good about a guess is nothing more than natural optimism. Until he is in pads doing what they think he can do, it is just a guess.

It is no different than a team signing a free agent and they bust mainly because the projection from the coaches and pro personnel people was wrong. They thought they would thrive in the system and for whatever reason the player could not.

I don't know what this "fan agenda" you are talking about entails.

all picks are projections. Bosa was a projection. Tapper overall stats at OU were not poor but also not what some feel he could have done in a defensive system that played to his strength.

As for the agenda for some it is simple if Dallas does not take player they want then the Cowboys are wrong and do not understand as if fans do. This does not mean that is how you feel but what I notice here if Cowboys do not pick a particular player they are wrong and fans go on and on about it

Tapper according to most analyst was projected to be a 3rd or 4th rd. pick. Dallas selected him with the 4th pick. I don't know how his career will turn out nor any other draft pick but from what I see Tapper was not a reach pick

The ONLY thing to be excited about with this team is the offense. If you want to talk about that I will talk positive all day. The only hold back is the QB position with an old Romo and horrid backups.

You want to talk about defense, Garrett, or the FO, then I have major issues. That is the reality. If you dont want to acknowledge the shortcomings of this team, then that is up to you. But just dont tell me things are all peaches and cream because they arent. Maybe if some people were more realistic then guys like me wouldnt have to set the record straight. You should actually thank me for not allowing you to drift off into your fantasy world. When reality hits you, at least you can say you werent totally in the dark on the issues.

For me, I would settle for some kind of long term coherent plan. When you draft a RB for "winning now", then turn around and take a LB that wont even play for a minimum of one year then that really sticks out as contrasting ideals. When you need defense, defense, defense, and you continue to take offense, and with a position of low value so high it is troubling. Jerry clearly goes for offense, flash, and home run type draft picks. And quite clearly he doesnt hit enough home runs. Steady, consistent drafting teams seem to be the most successful at it. And lets take a look at Jerry REALLY wanted to do in this draft. His #1 option was to take Zeke at #1 and then trade his #2 and #3 to move back up and take the QB. So his first 3 draft picks would have been used for offense this year. Quite frankly, I would have been over the top happy with getting the QB, but it just goes to show how the defense is the red headed step child for the FO. That is not the way I would team build.
