Mailbag: Would Romo Make The Pro Bowl Today?

GREG BENNO
ALLEN, TX

If the season ended today, would Romo make the Pro Bowl? Which other Cowboys would make the Pro Bowl?

David: In any other year, I'd consider Romo a lock for the Pro Bowl as one of the best for quarterbacks in the NFC. But the league isn't deciding teams based on conference this year, and that will probably shut him out. Right now, I'd say Jason Hatcher is a Pro Bowl lock, and Sean Lee will be too, assuming he's available for the last month of the season. Keep an eye on Tyron Smith, as well. He has been playing at an absurd level for the last three or four weeks.

Rowan: As David said, it's going to be close. But I think he would. There's only six quarterbacks ahead of him in passing yardage, and one of them is Matt Ryan on the lowly Falcons. His 24-to-7 touchdown-to-interception ratio is better than anyone's other than Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. He wouldn't be a starter, but I think he'd make the team. As for the others, I'd say Jason Hatcher's the only sure lock, but depending how quickly Sean Lee gets back he'd be a likely option. Dan Bailey, Tyron Smith and Dez Bryant could all make an argument, but though Bryant might be the most talented player on the team, his numbers aren't there yet among the league leaders.

Starter - Brees
Back-ups - Stafford, Romo, Cam and Wilson

Not sure how many QB's make it but I think four at minimum. So, Romo would make it if the season ended today over Wilson IMO. But, I think all five of the above would make it.

Add......AR could be a hit or miss depending on when he comes back, but I think he makes it as well.

Pro Bowl isn't decided by conference anymore.

Brees is the starter and Wilson and Cam probably playing better than Tony right now.
Lee won't make it over Kuechley or Willis, not this year for sure, probably ever because he can't stay on the filed for an entire year

Hatcher and Tyron should make it, and Dez will because even without the numbers he's one of the best and everyone likes him!!!

Under the new format, players will be selected without regard to conference in voting by fans, coaches and players. Players will be assigned to teams through the Pro Bowl Draft, which will air on Wednesday, Jan. 22, on NFL Network. The 2014 Pro Bowl will be held on Sunday, Jan. 26, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.

Some other notable changes to the game, per the NFL and NFLPA press release:

» Game within the Game: A two-minute warning will be added to the first and third quarters and the ball will change hands after each quarter. This will increase the opportunities for quarterbacks to direct "two-minute drills," which are especially exciting for fans.

» No Kickoffs: The coin toss will determine which team is awarded possession first. The ball will be placed on the 25-yard line at the start of each quarter and after scoring plays.

» Rosters: The rosters will continue to consist of 43 players per squad. The kick return specialist will be replaced by an additional defensive back.

» Cover Two and Press Coverage: The defense will be permitted to play "cover two" and "press" coverage. In previous years, only "man" coverage was permitted, except for goal-line situations.

» Stopping of the Game Clock: Beginning at the two-minute mark of every quarter, if the offense does not gain at least one yard, the clock will stop as if the play were an incomplete pass. This rule will make the team with the ball attempt to gain yardage toward the end of each quarter.

» Game Timing: The game clock will start after an incomplete pass on the signal of the referee, except inside the last two minutes of the first half and the last five minutes of the second half.
» Play Clock: A 35-second/25-second play clock will be adopted instead of the typical 40-second/25-second clock.

» Sacks: The game clock will not stop on quarterback sacks outside of the final two minutes of the game. Currently, the game clock stops in these situations outside of two minutes of the second and fourth quarters.

If the season ended today, then Romo SHOULD make it, but I doubt he does. Right now, there's only 3 QBs without question out playing Romo and that's Manning, Brees, and Rivers. He could very easily fill in the 4th spot, though if he doesn't make it then it will be Stafford or Wilson.

So long the fans have a majority of the say so, I do not think Romo ever makes the pro bowl again. He has too much negative stigma to his name.

Romo should make it but he's been screwed out of it before so I wouldn't be surprised to see him not make it again.

I just voted for....

Romo
Dez
Witten
Tyron
Hatcher
Lee

Harris as a returner.

And, okay, I homered out and voted for Frederick too. Which is probably more evidence that fans shouldn't have a say in this thing.

I noticed the Cowboys don't have a player in their special teams category, for whatever reason.
