(Editor’s Note: With two weeks until the start of the 2016 NFL Draft on April 28, the staff of DallasCowboys.com intends to preview the landscape of possible Cowboys draft picks – from the top of the first round to the bottom of the talent pool. Today’s featured player is Louisiana Tech running back Kenneth Dixon.)

Name: Kenneth Dixon

Position: Running Back

College: Louisiana Tech

Height/Weight: 5-10/215

Honors: Dixon made All-Conference USA in three of his four seasons at Louisiana Tech, earning first-team honors as a senior.

Key Stat: Dixon became Louisiana Tech’s all-time leading rusher in his junior season and finished his college career with 87 combined touchdowns, one shy of the NCAA record.

Where He’s Projected: Most mock drafts view Dixon in the second- to third-round range as one of the best running back prospects in a 2016 class that includes Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott and Alabama’s Derrick Henry.

How He Helps the Cowboys: The Cowboys’ coaching staff got to know Dixon a little while coaching the North squad during Senior Bowl week. Certainly doesn’t mean he’ll get drafted by Dallas, but running back is a possibility for the Cowboys at some point in the draft – even with the recent free-agent signing of veteran Alfred Morris. Lance Dunbar, back on a one-year deal, could start the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as he continues to recover from last year’s knee injury. A rookie running back could compete for a role in the running back rotation behind Darren McFadden and Morris.

Scout’s Take: Thick build. Quickness and balance. Catches the ball well on the move. Can make defender miss. Works hard to finish. Running style all over the place. Plays with explosive quickness. Start-stop quickness. Hard to tackle. Aware cut blocker on the edge. Vision to see the holes. Runs tough. Can get to second level in a hurry, able to work around the corner. Can bounce the ball to the outside and not get caught. Spin move to get space. Can make plays in the passing game down field. Plays with upper and lower body power. Shows the ability to carry the ball wherever he needs to go. Does a nice job of keeping his pads down. Playmaker. Has the traits of those running backs that never come off the field. – Bryan BroaddusRead

Maybe not as elite as Elliott as a runner or blocker but Dixon by far is the best pass catching back coming out this year.

I would disagree but I think he is much more bang for the buck than Zeke although hands down I'd prefer Zeke.

His tendency is to be a body catcher but he does catch well. I was looking at film to compare him with Alex Collins. Take in consideration that Alex played against better compition. Collins seems to have thicker lower body build which I like Dixon despite being a body catcher better reciever. I think Dixon may have higher top end speed and better lateral movement have not checked combine results yet but would guess Dixon has little
better 40 time and 3 cone. I like Dixon but Collins again play against better comp. Which means Collins prob go first. Dixon should be avail in 3rd for that reason.

I was surprised some have Dixon ahead of Collins in rating. Dixons slight lower body build is a concern. Both have ball security issues. For Dallas if I had to chose between the two I like Collins slightly better.

I love Jordan Howards lower body build reminds me of Turman Thomas. Would think lower body build give him less injury potential in long run. He doesn't have the top end speed of the others or shake but is a solid one cut guy. He my pick if he is there in 3rd.

Not really sure Jordan Howards injury concerns are realistic. Injuries happen lower body build is excellent. I would be more concerned if his lower body was slight. He can learn to protect himself better. Doesn't have to seek out contact all the time. He is a little Marion Barber that way though which means I really like him.

Having difficulty finding Howards 40 time at Indiana some reports have him as low as 4.4-4.5 I don't buy it. Maybe solid 4.6 guy but I'm ok with it. Prob reason he didn't run 40 at combine. I don't need him to be a 4.5 guy. Emmitt was a 4.6 guy. I'll take that.

Conflicting results from Howards pro day. Walter states Howards 40 in 4.6 range. Other states 4.5 so a high and a low ? Assuming hand times I will go with 4.6 most likely. That's where I put him just looking at film.

Driskel highlights were more like Dixon highlights.

I can only imagine what Romo could do with an outlet like him
