There isn't a number that I would hold sacred. I would however attempt to honor previous players, by judiciously issuing that number to a player I think possesses franchise talent. I enjoyed Chuck Howley and Randy White both wearing #54, Bob Hayes and Emmitt Smith while wearing #22 and Drew Pearson, Michael Irvin, Dez Bryant and to a lesser extent Cee Dee Lamb in #88. If we found ourselves drafting a franchise quarterback in the future, I would have no problem cheering him as he takes the field wearing number # 12
Go Cowboys
I love what we do with 88, it’s a tip of the hat to the past and quite an honor for the receiver. Not sure if you could do the same with 12, 22, 74, etc but I’m not exactly against it.
