Improved to what? Average? Decent?

Yeah, I'd say average, but trending upwards rather than down. Certainly improvement from the start of the season.

I think they are a D that still has big holes and can be exploited by any quality offense that you would likely encounter in the playoffs (if we ever get back there LOL).

Holes? Sure. "Big holes"? I don't know about that. Rivers tore them a new one on Thanksgiving, but I think they improved since then. And they didn't give up more than 17 points in a game since.

The middle of the D is a question at every level - DT, MLB, S

With in-house options everywhere outside of the 1T.

Romo wasn't in Dak's ear last year, Mark Sanchez was.
And clearly, the added pressure and sacks are almost wholly due to losing Tyron Smith.
When you cant trust your blind side as a QB you are going to be lost period.
Anyone with Aikman in their name surely knows what Troy was like when he couldn't trust his OL versus what he was when he could.

So you want to attribute Daks success to Mark Sanchez - OK.. Mark Sanchez did not even know what pocket precense was!

They have big holes. Safety is a big question. 1 Tech is a big question. And as much as I like Smith, thinking he definitely solves the MLB is foolish at this point IMO.

And what if Irving’s concussion, which was extremely serious, is a long term issue? Suddenly outside of Lawrence, who is your stud DL?

About the only position I feel good about is CB and DE with Lawrence. Even Lee is a question mark given his exhaustive injury issues.

Again, they weren't giving up big points since Thanksgiving. From that point, they started to make some adjustments and changes that look to have paid off.

1 Tech is a big question.

Undeniably. But never denied.

And as much as I like Smith, thinking he definitely solves the MLB is foolish at this point IMO.

Agreed. But Hitchens is still an option there too, until he isn't.

And what if Irving’s concussion, which was extremely serious, is a long term issue? Suddenly outside of Lawrence, who is your stud DL?

Then it will be dealt with accordingly. Irving was a rotation guy who had flashes before this year. Now after a concussion it's doom and gloom?

About the only position I feel good about is CB and DE with Lawrence. Even Lee is a question mark given his exhaustive injury issues.

I think that's a real glass half empty view of things. Much of it looking for things to worry about. Personally, I worry much more about an offense that has much more invested in it that failed miserably down the stretch while the defense was coming together.

Just pointing out facts. Sanchez was the guy in his ear. Internally Dallas is aware of this and there are calls to get him back in the building and on the sideline.
Kellen Moore was also a factor big-time during prep work which is why they are considering him as QB Coach.
Romo was simply trying to get his body ready and get his job back.

Pocket presence is heavily affected by how much pressure you receive.
Most teams ensure they have the best pass blocker at LT. DAL was in a tough spot this year as they didn't have a true back up LT.
I do think Martin might eventually wind up as the back up LT but if DAL would have done that and he could play there before hos rookie deal ends, you no longer can keep him on the team. He'd have trumped Tyron Smith in salary/value.
Collins obviously was just adjusting to RT and couldn't play LT.
Bell was/is a journeyman stop gap but was the best option.

BTW, there is a reason the QB Coach and OL Coach aren't coming back.
And there's a reason there will be a new QB2 next year.

Part of the success since Thanksgiving is they faced some pretty cruddy offenses and QBs.

As for Irving, he’s our 2nd best DL and if you read the stories, he’s having serious post concussion problems.

Again QB gets a pass.

Dak is a huge problem.

I liked the part about QB hits. According to the numbers, Dak got hit about 1 more time every 2 games (half a hit a game) more than he did last year. Not much different.

He was the primary guy Dak talked to on the sideline in between plays. This comes from inside the organization and is easily available on twitter.

I think you're missing a lot about what Sanchez was talking to him about and what Romo was talking to him about. It wasn't the same thing. As far as what was happening on the field, Romo was the guy.

The jury is still out for me.

Prescott had a great 2016 season and a fine start overall to 2017. While his finish was undeniably awful, I'm not closing the book on him just yet.

I'll give him 2018 to show which guy he truly is.

Oh cmon, man. Jury still out? Is this the OJ jury, by any chance? He did not have a great 2016 season playing big boy NFL QB making throws down the field. He was a limited passer then and became even more limited asked to do more this year against defenses more familiar with him. He didn't progress, he regressed. What more does this jury need to see? He can't throw the ball. This is who he is.

And yet, some how, some way, he took this team to a 13-win season and I believe a franchise record win streak? That's pretty "big boy" in anyone's book.

I won't hold your book open for you. Feel free to close it.

Prescott has his strengths and weaknesses. But I'm not going to try to disregard a great season of work and only pay attention to his recent struggles. That's ignorant.

Interesting look at it and good way to break it down for easy digestion.
The biggest things I took away are:
1. Need to generate more big plays on offense. Big plays lead to points.
2. Record without Lee at 1-5 is crazy. Record without Tyron at 1-3 is almost as bad. But we knew those were our best 2 players on their sides of the ball and now have W-L data to back that up.

Corrective Actions:
1. You need to add speed/playmaking to the offense.
1a. This can be a TE/WR/3rd down-wing back type so options galore but you need a game-breaking element to mix with the slow and steady hammer that is the Dak, OL plus Zeke.
2. We've got have better back up solutions for those 2 special guys who are unlikely to find Emmitt's Smith's magical health elixir.
2a. I think this means you draft a LB and sign or draft a proven Swing Tackle but you better have a plan.
A proven swing tackle is a must
Big on drafting a LB early
We sure need more speed
And my dream is add Poe at 1, it is rare to find a one who can hold the middle and get pressure
Plus that give us m Collins back where his quickness is an asset and great depth worth tcraw and irving and helps edge depth since Irving can play the edge too
