IRVING, Texas – A handful of observations from the game film against the Broncos. On top of the notes from the game, I’ve written down a few thoughts about what we can expect as the Cowboys prepa...

Coleman, Bishop and Melton could be the DT corps of this defense for the next few seasons.

I don't expect Coleman and Bishop to be world-beaters this season. They're going to have some rough games, but starting next season they could both be solid game in and game out.

Add in Lawrence into the view up front, and that does now project...

sorry but we need more quality up front. We have to invest heavily in the DL in the upcoming draft and ditch Marinelli's stupid policy of not drafting 1 tech DTs in the early rds.

Any team can run between the tackles for about 8 yards per carry against this dline.

Really wish we could find a way to keep Byrd but I don't want to drop Harris or Beasley for him. Numbers game sucks. Same with Ryan Williams. 2 good players will be cut when they shouldn't be. Wish we had this problem on the DL

I agree with your post except Marnelli's stupid policy. Coleman looks like he'll mature into a good 3 and Bishop a solid 1
So drafting another couple of 1's and 3's next year [if the the draft falls right] a DE and give them a year to mature
then 2016 we are a contender

If there has been a silver lining to all the injuries along this defensive line it has allowed young players like Davon Coleman and Ken Bishop the opportunity to get plenty of snaps. When camp opened, this defensive staff had an idea of what kind of players Coleman and Bishop could potentially become. Now with all this game action, they have a much better understanding of where these players are both mentally and physically along with how they might respond if they are put in roles where they have to start or where they fit in a rotation. Both Coleman and Bishop played the entire game against the Broncos and were just as strong and active in the fourth quarter as they were in the first when it came to playing with power and technique. They could have become tired and sloppy but that was not the case at all.

Bishop and Coleman probably worked the hardest of any players in the preseason. They probably played the most snaps of anybody and DT is not an easy place to play a high snap count. Those 2 have to be exhausted, but they kept battling.

I would have to think they're better players now than what they were July 23rd (or whatever the beginning of camp was).

Definitely. They will probably be even better with some rest between now and game 1. I think the team will be on the regular season practice schedule now, instead of the more intense preseason schedule.

I hope RB Williams and WR Byrd are on the 53-man roster. What's the point of cutting those two who have a future for some defensive player who most likely won't even be active for a game. And if that defensive scrub happens to be active, it won't be in a positive way. We will go as far as this offense can take us this year and we will need to use all the offensive firepower we can.
