Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman recently joined KTCK-AM 1310 to talk all things football. Here are some of the highlights:

On why Charles Haley deserves to be in the Hall of Fame:

“A bunch of us were talking about this last night, well with regards to Charles, absolutely. You’ve heard me say it before, if there’s ever a guy who’s deserving of the Hall of Fame, it’s Charles Haley. And in my opinion, and I don’t say this very often because I don’t like getting into whether guys should or shouldn’t be in, but he’s very deserving. And I’ve tried to tell as many people that who can influence the vote or even voters themselves. He was not only a part of five world championships, but he was a huge part as to why those teams won those championships. And apparently there’s some real momentum this year behind him. It becomes a numbers game to some degree when you’ve got guys like (Michael) Strahan and Warren Sapp and he goes in and they don’t want to take too many defensive guys or too many defensive linemen or whatever it might be. And this year seems to be setting up well where it could be his year.”

On Jimmy Johnson’s Hall of Fame chances:

“With Jimmy, I believe that he is a Hall of Fame coach. I know what he meant to our success. There’s guys like myself who are in the Hall of Fame, and a big reason for that is what Jimmy put together, and so I believe that he’s deserving. And I was just told last night that there’s only two coaches in the Hall of Fame who have less than 100 victories. One is Vince Lombardi, and the other one is Bill Walsh. I was shocked that Bill Walsh didn’t have 100 victories. So that hurts Jimmy, I guess, is what I’m hearing. But he was obviously great in a short period of time, and I’d put him against anybody.

On Johnson’s coaching strengths:

“I do think that you look back at the Miami years and maybe view it as not as successful. I think that the bar was really high, but he did do a nice job. He got that team going in the right direction, too, especially defensively. As good as Jimmy was as a coach, his two strengths, I’ve always said, his greatest strength was his ability to evaluate talent and his other strength was his ability to prepare a team during the week. On game day, he was OK. He would take chances and all that. But I thought that during the week and his messages to the tam and preparing us, he was as good as I’ve ever been around.”

One can always say well Jimmy was his coach but players don't have to go out of their way to praise a former coach etc. Nice to hear about Haley, too.

Good point about the HC. Switzer, Chan Gailey, Campo, Wade, etc. dont get all those comments. Jimmy gets it quite a bit tho.
