Let's talk about new Cowboy CB Mike Jenkins

The Cowboys made it pretty clear that they were going after a top CB in the 2008 NFL Draft whether they traded for Pacman Jones or not. That had to make Cowboy's fans happy because we all know the secondary was the weakest unit on their 13-3 NFC East Championship team.

Then the draft comes and the Cowboys are able to grab one of the best CB's on the board in University of South Florida's Mike Jenkins. There is no doubt he has loads of potential and could become one of the best CB's in the NFL with his combination of size, speed and strength. You don't find many 6'0, 200lb CB's who can run a 4.38 in the 40 yard dash and also 'bring the wood' when making a tackle.

I think getting a coaches inside info is the best way to truly get a feel for a player because that's the guy working with him on a daily basis so he knows him inside and out.

So here's an interview I did today with Troy Douglas, one of Jenkin's DB coaches last year at South Florida..

Troy Douglas Interview

There isn't any doubt in Coach Douglas' mind that the Cowboys picked up the best CB in the 2008 NFL draft and that alone has me excited enough, but then you throw in the comparisons to Deion Sanders and it makes you wish the season began tomorrow.

Jenkins was in attendance at his first rookie minicamp today out at Valley Ranch and he spoke about his relationship with 'Prime Time', read here.

"He keeps me level," Jenkins said today. "He keeps my confidence up, and he always has a lot of good things to say about me that I can feed off of. He's willing to help anytime, I can text him anytime of the night or day, and he's going to get right back to you and he's going to be ready to help you."
Because of Deion, Jenkins isn't a novice when it comes to Cowboys history. But it's not like he was really a Dallas fanatic. He'd also rooted in spurts for the Falcons and 49ers, which if you followed Sanders' career, makes a whole lot of sense.
"(Deion's) one of the greatest players ever," Jenkins said. "I pretty much followed him everywhere he went. Each team he went to, that was my favorite team."
Just take a quick look at these highlights and tell me this kid isn't going to be special..

With Terence Newman, Pacman Jones, Anthony Henry and Mike Jenkins lining up on defense for the Cowboys in 2008 their secondary is now easily one of the best in the league.

So to those opposing QB's I say this. Go ahead and throw it, but don't be surprised if you're trying to run down one of these guys while they are taking it to the house on a pick six.

I would have preferred WR Devin Thomas with our #28-However, nonetheless, I am VERY happy with the Jenkins pick. We sorely need some young, fresh blood in our secondary-especially with the arsenal attack we have to face from our NFCE rivals in years to come.

LOL, I had no idea that Troy Douglass was Mike Jenkins position coach. He's a relative of mine by marriage. I'm gonna see if I can get a Mike Jenkins jersey autographed.
