I wonder if we had any reps at the Boston College pro day where Zak ran positional drills. By the way, he ran a 4.03 shuttle at that pro day. By comparison Leon Hall ran a 4.07 and Darrelle Revis ran a 4.08.
Damn, I should have e-mailed you a ton of questions.
No, there were no scouts from Dallas there. I checked on that before the interview because I was gonna ask him what questions they had for him had they been there.

BC Pro Day
Posted by Albert Breer at 4:10 pm
CHESTNUT HILL — Today was a very, very big day for 31 New England college prospects, as Boston College held its Pro Day inside the bubble at Alumni Stadium. This is the final piece for most players before the draft, excluding individual workouts, to show what they got. Here are some numbers on the NFL hopefuls from the event:
– Of the 31 prospects, just eight were Eagles, since BC fielded a very young team in 2006. UMass-Amherst and Harvard both had six prospects in attendance, Northeastern had four, Curry College had three, and Bentley, Brown, Maine and Williams had one apiece. The consensus is that the three most draftable players there were Eagle linemen
James Marten (a tackle) and
Josh Beekman (guard) and Brown linebacker
Zak DeOssie.
– Eighteen NFL teams were represented. Five teams — the Browns, Packers, Patriots, Giants and Eagles — had two scouts there. The Ravens, Bills, Panthers, Bears, Bengals, Colts, Jaguars, Chiefs, Dolphins, Saints, Chargers, 49ers and Rams had one each there. Also, the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes and
Arena League’s Albany Conquest also had single scouts present.
– There was an uneven breakdown by position, with 10 of the 31 players there defensive backs. Six offensive linemen, two tight ends, four running backs, five wideouts, two defensive linemen and four linebackers. Since there was no draft-eligible quarterback there (BC rising senior
Matt Ryan isn’t allowed to work out), coaches had to throw for the receivers. Doing most of the tossing was BC receivers coach
Ryan Day, a former UNH quarterback.
Now, just because there were 31 guys there didn’t mean 31 guys were going through all the tests. While each player did work through position drills, some chose to skip the testing. DeOssie had an impressive combine (4.58 dash, 26 reps on bench, etc.), so he didn’t work out. And all Marten did was the bench, the one exercise he opted out of in Indy. But there were some things to be seen. Here’s some:
– Keep an eye on UMass receiver
Brandon London. At 6-4, 210, most scouts had him in the low-4.5s in the 40 and the Browns, according to a couple guys there, had him coming in under 4.5 Plus, London looked real fluid and impressive in position drills, accelerating well and catching the ball away from his body. He said the Browns and Giants are interested, and an Eagles scout chatted him up at the end of the day. London also called Saints WR
Marques Colston — a fellow A-10 alum — an inspiration and and said he’s been in contact with him.
– Northeastern TE
Kendrick Ballantyne made the play of the day, with a spectacular catch during passing lines. Running a post-corner route, Ballantyne came out of his break toward the sideline. The ball came far inside and Ballantyne stuck his right hand out, against his momentum, and stabbed the ball out of the air, then pulled it into his body.
– Beekman showed good feet and you could see how low he plays in bag drills. His height, of course, is a bit of a concern. But he looks like an agile player who could develop into a solid interior lineman. Also, UMass C
Alex Miller looked like someone with athleticism for an interior player, too, and was another one who impressed in bag drills and agilities. Marten, while he did move well, seems to have trouble sinking his hips and keeping a low base.
– Patriots line coach
Dante Scarnecchia was in attendance and help run the position drills for the linemen. Also representing the team was area scout
Frantzy Jourdain.
– Alum BC
Mathias Kiwanuka was also there, on a day off from the Giants offseason program. He said he was keeping an eye on his old buddy Beekman.
