Tony Romo Is My New Favorite Player On The Dallas Cowboys
That was the toughest loss for me as a 26 year fan of the Dallas Cowboys. But I can honestly say that I have found my new favorite player in Tony Romo. That kid has the heart of a lion!
Would you be at that post game press conference wearing your heart on your sleeve after that game? Probably not. Me, I would still be in the locker room in my uniform balling my eyes out and wishing I never ever picked up a football. I feel your pain kid.
When that football slipped thru this kid's hands I felt as if 100 men had punched me in the stomach. Why? That's the only thing that kept crossing my mind over and over again. Why would this happen to me, to Cowboys Nation, to the Cowboys players, to Bill Parcells, to Jerry Jones and to Tony Romo?
Because it can. That's the only real answer to this question. How many times have all of us had a similar situation happen to us in our daily activities. Have you ever poked yourself in the eye by accident? What about the time you dropped your beer on the floor? How does that toe feel that you stubbed on the corner of the coffee table about 1000 times? Simple, this was an accident and that's all it ever will be.
Yeah, he let the team down. He knows it and he takes full responsibility for it. He didn't blame the snapper. He didn't blame the wet football. He didn't say 'well if Terry Glenn doesn't fumble on the previous series we aren't even in that situation'. Tony Romo screwed up and Tony Romo feels worse than any single one of us could ever feel in a million years.
Call me a homer all you want, but call me Tony Romo's biggest fan too. I am going to be there next season to watch this kid fight his guts out on every single play while he's trying to help the Dallas Cowboys win football games. Jerry Jones should be the first one to congratulate Tony Romo on a great season. After Troy Aikman retired from the Cowboys this team has been searching for a 'Quarterback Of The Future'. Tony Romo is that guy and I am very excited about the future of this team because he will be leading the way.
I know there are going to be a whole lot of Cowboy fans out there who want to take this pain out on someone and they will probably use Tony Romo as their own personal punching bag. That's fine and Tony Romo probably expects them too. With all the ups and downs this season I think the most important lesson he learned is that the spotlight is always on him whether the news is good or bad. These tough times usually knock some people out in the first round and the fight is over. With Tony Romo I think this latest incident was just the first good right hook he has taken and I expect him to counter punch with a great 2007 season.
So to all you guys out there who want to bash him go right ahead. Get it out of your system and hopefully you feel better in the morning for doing so. But when you get up tomorrow remember these few things. Tony Romo will be back and he will be better than ever. Tony Romo's career will not be remembered for this accident. Tony Romo will once again be a hero in your eyes. And lastly let's all remember this - without Tony Romo the Cowboys would not have even been in the playoffs this season.
Now here's a few thoughts about the game...
This Cowboys defense came out and played their hearts out, but I fear there are a few players who are way overrated. Terence Newman, Jason Ferguson and Demarcus Ware are the only guys who are consistent performers. This offense is being held back by the play calling and I hope that changes in 2007. I am not sure how the Cowboys failed to take advantage of the Seahawks 4th and 5th Cornerbacks covering Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn but that's excatly what hapened. I think there were plays in this game to be made by players on both sides of the football and they just didn't make them. Maybe I am just bitter but I think this game was more of a case of the Cowboys losing it than the Seahawks winning it. Nice job by Miles Austin on the kick return. Bobby Carpenter became a man out there tonight.
