Similar to what Bob Sturm puts out, I put together a list of the "splash" play leaders of this year's DE/Edge class. "Splash" plays are sacks, TFL, forced fumbles, pass defensed, and interceptions. I then looked at the aggregate numbers to get the average number of "splash" plays each player made each game.

I think this is a useful metric in understanding which players are actually game wreckers.

Its too bad Ojabo tore his achilles. Thats alot of TO's for a pass rusher

Yeah, Williams was super productive. Conversely, it will be interesting to see how Travon Walker turns out. He's a case study in traits vs. actual production.

Walker us definitely a traits guy. Rocketed up the draft charts after his combine performance and measurables rather than on field production. I think a good coach could make him and a bad coach break him.

Sam Williams continues to jump out to me. I very much think he’s their round 2 target.

Throw in his off the field stuff and he seems like a perfect COWBOYZ!

I was hoping he'd find his way to our third round pick given his questionable antics.

I’m not counting on it. And as far as the ‘antics’, were there anything other than the allegations/charges that were dropped?

Some issues at JUCO, nothing serious. Had grade issues. Apparently bombed some interviews. He just seems like a guy that you are going to have to put the time into making sure he's on the straight and narrow. I'd love him in the 3rd because his raw skills are off the chart. 2nd? Depends on who is also on the board and if we went brain dead in the first round taking a WR or something like that.

So it sounds to me like the only substantial issue was allegations that were dropped. And I know his team and coaches praised him after his return. That’s good enough for me. If it’s my call, I’m taking him in round 2 and not getting cute.

Still can happen.

Especially due to off field stuff AND run stopping issues.

There’s always a balance in this.

Bradley Anae isn’t good enough to get on the field despite his robust college production.

No one wanted Jayson Oweh and many called him a workout warrior because he had 0 sacks his last year at Penn St. He got 5 sacks and 27 pressures as a rookie rotational player last year.

It’s difficult to balance size, athletic traits, production, and mental makeup when evaluating these guys. And that doesn’t even factor in what scheme they were playing in college which often times has a huge affect.

For sure, there are always outliers.

The metric favors those that actually produced in college. In fairness, I would lean towards demonstrated production vs. traits w/out production when it comes to projecting future NFL success.

I'd love a great OG in the 1st and Williams in the 2nd, i dont think he'll be there in round 3. I've given up on hoping for a great 1T early and I sure hope they don't go WR in rounds 1 or 2!

For Cameron Thomas, does that game total also include when SDSU had him playing at DT?

Good stuff…IMO in round 1 you’re trying to draft these guys that also meet the athleticism threshold.

Im big on Thomas just really want to know what kind of athlete he is?
