Might be a guy we should take a flier on .The lions DL was stacked last year and he had 6 sacks in limited play. Anyone pay attention to the lions last year ?

Detroit has the right to match any offer on him so it would depend on the price we would have to go up to.

Definitely an interesting player though. He is from about 20 mins from where I grew up so I've followed his story a little bit. He apparently changed his entire life around after getting cut for the 2nd time in the NFL and finding out he was having a kid around the same time. May be just dipping into his potential now

Yes, absolutely. We need as many rushers as possible. His name sounds familiar so I'm in.

Detroit probably doesn't want to lose more defensive players though.

Don't know much about him. Would he be a fit in our D scheme?

Though if signed there will be a 20 page thread that he is a JAG or camp body. But if another team signed him, he will be another player we missed out on...

Did they tender him?

Did they tender him?

Yes but they only tendered him as an original round tender which was an UDFA. I don't believe there is any compensation for that, the Lions just have the right to match. At least I think that's how it works....could be wrong

The Detroit Lions signed one of their three restricted free agents, quarterback Kellen Moore, to a two-year contract today, and they informed another, defensive end George Johnson, that he'll be receiving a low-round contract tender.

Johnson finished third on the Lions with six sacks last year and, at 27, could draw interest in the free agent market.

The low-round tender guarantees the Lions the right to match any contract offer Johnson receives as a free agent but does not provide draft-pick compensation if he signs with another team.

Johnson will make about $1.54 million if he plays this season on the tender.

The Lions and Johnson briefly were at odds over his status as a free agent. The NFL Players Association listed Johnson as an unrestricted free agent, but he fell one game short of that distinction, per the collective bargaining agreement.

I was liking picking up a DE in FA. Drafting one has a higher learning curve than drafting a defensive tackle. I'm hoping our DT's are chosen high. The fact that he is on the Lions begs to question whether he was competing with a highly competitive roster and the odd man out (suppressed talent). I saw how many defensive players on the Lions were hitting FA and I thought we might be able to snag him. I'm still waiting. :(
