DE Howard

When he was playing in the 3 man front, he was being eaten alive by the guard and tackle. And Ware continues to be blamed for the left side runs - watch the tape again, and see if you can find Ellis on those runs to the left.

They were Ware's fault. Ellis isn't a great 3-4 DE, but he isn't nearly as bad as you're trying to make him out to be.

so let me check the "sacks" stats sheet for last week. here it is. ..... canty? um.... nope. spears? ..... naw. "rat"? .... zilch. coleman? .... nuh-uh.

so who does appear in the "sacks" column?

laroi, roy, and... what's this? do my eyes deceive me?...

greg ellis!?! must be a misprint, right?

keep trying Nors...

Ellis also led the team with 4 QB pressures and was solid vs the run again...

but he "doesnt fit here" according to one particular person

Ellis not a 3-4 FIT - lets revisit that in a year.

Nope. I keep trying to tell you: your predictions have to come with a best-before date attached. Otherwise they're tautological and useless. I too can predict, with absolute certainty mind you, that every single player on this team will eventually (if not now, next year, or the year after that...) be jettisoned in favor of someone younger and therefore a better fit for the future.

With that in mind, let's quickly recap your more recent roster predictions: Ellis, Singleton and Gurode are still here. Oops. That makes you 0-3.

Bingo - It was never a reality. Dude was asking for crazy money. We were going 3-4 - Went after Fergi fast in FA.

Drafted 3-4 studs in Ware, Spears, Canty, Burnett.

There was no Howard deal - just BS.

It was a contingency plan.

It did not become a reality because a higher contingency came to fruition in Ware and Spears.

If these guys had dropped off the board then you very well may have seen that guy in a cowboys uniform.

Like Parcells said in today press conference. His life is about contingency plans.

Ellis reps reduced - team depth at 3-4 DE!
Al LARGE will soon be benched - he does nothing
Gurode - he's a nice backup and role player

Ellis's sacks are coming when we move to the four man front.

I love Ellis, but he's just a nickel man in this defense.

This just plain isn't true. I watched Ellis most of the game, and he did two things. One - switched between strong side and weak side several times on 3 man lines. Two - especially later in the game, he lived in the backfield. Regardless of his half a sack, the was almost always the first person back there. And this is a line that held defenses to only 18 sacks last year - no scrub OL.

Edit: In thinking more about that, I have not been charitable enough to your post. Perhaps Ellis was doubled and stifled at the line at times that I didn't notice. Good - if that is the case, it only proves that he is doing very well in the scheme. They can't leave him one on one, because he will own. If they double him, that frees up a LBer, which is exactly what should happen in the 3-4. If he is commanding double teams in the defense, that means he is doing well, not poor.
