What if De Smith got a great deal for the players? He would be famous and would be seen as a great negotiator. It would be kind of like OJ Simpons lawyers. I think a deal could get done if player reps talk straight to the owners as do some of the player reps and owners. Get the people that have something to gain by hard negotiation out of the way and let them make a deal.

This is the same line of argument as Jerry Jones is the devil incarnate but at least Jones owns the team.

The players vote on everything and as the Brady suit should tell you, they are very involved in a very direct manner.

Whether or not Smith is successful is based on how the injunction in April goes. if they win that then all the planning and preparation has come through.

People get all tied up in the PR game but fail to realize that this public opinion has no bearing. None of these court issues are going to be determined by a jury and I seriously doubt that federal circuit judges are swayed by tripe like that.

Unless the NFL wins the case stating that the players do not have the right to decertify then they are hosed. Its going to take some serious judicial constructionism to not have the lockout rescinded and then they get to be a nice test case for pro sports and antitrust litigation.

Players are always going to be viewed as stupid and that ownership propaganda machine will start pimping them again instead against them once again because thats what makes money.

I am to the point now where i laugh at people making waves about something Adrian Peterson or Antonio Cromartie said.

There is only one thing that matters now and that is that day in court.

That is the day that he can make a name for himself. Breaking the league lockout would be historical.

I think you're right and that De Smith has his own agenda in mind to a certain extant.

There was another thread like this a while ago...CaSmith or Chocolate Lab maybe made it. I don't remember exactly.

I don't think so. De Smith was a highly successful lawyer prior representing the players.

I think if he is able to get the CBA sorted out, he could have a successful career as an NFL GM. Anybody want him in Dallas? Haha. Just kidding. Jerry Jones is the best GM in the NFL.
:laugh2:
