You do realize the smell is not a problem but the health concerns that go along with it are... I mean think about it... the body is Decaying with Maggots, worms, roaches and such all over it....If I where you I'd find a real fast way to get the dead one out then sanatize the area....

Do you have enough insurance in the event of a fire?

Your house wouldn't smell like a dead animal any longer.

I bought some of those citrus air fresheners today, they work really well.

I went to an animal clean up guy today and he sold me biological filters and masks for my safety and some sort of absorbant bags that they use for dead animals to clear the odor out of the house.

Man, that really sucks.

I have mice that die from time to time in my basement ceiling and they stink for about a week. But it's never as bad as you're describing. I usually just put out an air freshener and in a few days the smell goes away.

This will be a pain in the arse, but since it's in your pantry, you might want to try to figure out where it is and cut away the drywall and try to remove it that way.

Otherwise I'd have to say you'll have to wait it out until the thing completely decomposes.

... otherwise, even when it does decompose, you'll still have the liquified remnants of a possum that will leave a darkened, fragrant stain and odor within your walls until ,well, until you take it out. IT WON"T GO AWAY. Being inside the wall, there is not wind to remove it completely and erode the remains away from inside your wall.

Bottom line is... that nasty thing will be in there until you take it out. For sanitary reasons, and concerns for your health. I urge you, to take immediate action in removing the animal corpse from your inner wall.

You should be able to google someone that can help you with this sort of thing. Believe it or not, there are companies that deal with extracting once living, but now decomposing bodies of many sorts...

Good luck, my friend.

yeah, It looks like I am going to be forced to if more animals die in there in the next few days. All I know is that something big died in there because the smell is soo damn strong it is unreal. Right now my office is the only room in the house where I can close the door and take the mask off and breathe without gagging...setting up an air mattress in here for the night so I can actually get some sleep.

What part of Austin do you live in?

I don't anymore. I moved to Houston about 9 months ago. I used to live in the Brodie area down south.
