not sure how fast zeke declines over time, but here is the dead money depending on when he is cut:

year---dead money----base salary
2020 - 25.8 mil----------6.8 mil
2021 - 14.9 mil----------9.6 mil
2022 - 10.8 mil----------12.4 mil <<<<< earliest time where base salary > dead money

so logically, 2020 does not make sense.
2021 would be a $5m hit and would likely force a top 3 round draft pick.
2022 would make sense if performance has substantially declined (or renegotiate or else cut) and force a top 3 round draft pick.

Isn't this a bit premature........he's only a month into the new deal. Are we already thinking he won't fulfill his end?

i dont know what he is going to do and how badly he has/will decline.
i was curious enough to check his contract numbers.

so a 2021 cut is doable but 2022 would have little downside.

Counting down the days till we release him. One of the dumbest contracts in Cowboys history.

Should have let this drunken women beater rot like the Chargers did.

:facepalm::facepalm:

Most fans react week to week. They're instant evaluators.

Remember, they wanted to bench Zeke 2 games into his pro career for Alfred Morris.

And what a huge mistake we didn't. We wouldn't have lost to GB if we had benched Zeke for Alfred. Of course, we probably don't make the playoffs, but that would've been better than losing.

Zeke will be alright. He's gonna come back with a vengeance. We can worry about the dead money in a couple of years.

No, his contract was premature as was his draft pick. I highly doubt he’ll fulfill his end, unless he has a top 5-10 O line blocking for him in which case Pollard could have produced adequate numbers. Dumb pick, dumb contract, dumb player.

No kidding. He's had two good games, one solid game, and one bad game. My goodness. DeMarcus Lawrence is the one they need to look at for dead money.

Lol, please Ranch. This seems all too similar to the “Zeke will run angry” or “Zeke will beast out”. Yeah, that stands true against the scrub defenses of the league but never has against the better defenses which is where he’s supposed to make a difference.

As I said earlier, I’m sure he’ll look great against Green Bay, as most RB’s have, and he looked great agai at 3 or the 4 worst teams in the league which everyone praised him for. When will he deliver or live up to his contract against a team that is defensively worthwhile of why we paid him as much as we did?

Great game against Miami? Pollard could have done that. Commanders? Same. Giants Definitely. Saints? Nope. Green Bay? Probably because their horrible at run defense.

You pay a RB as much as we did to make a difference against better teams, he’s never done that.

Nothing personal against you Ranch. You know I’m ranting but this is why I hated the contract and the signing besides the dude is a chump, entitled bully, diva loser. He’ll probably run for 100+ yards against GB and we’ll hear how great he is until we face a real team...

So do you think Tank Lawrence has lived up to his contract??

Then we wonder why other fans consider us the stupidest fans of the NFL......

Yup. Can't even appreciate a 2, should be 3, time rushing champion. Why do Dak and Zeke get thrown under the bus if they don't play well but DeMarcus Lawrence gets a free pass? I don't understand it.

And some fans even still think that was a good idea at the time.

Hey, we should have benched the eventual league's leading rusher for, ya know, Alfred Morris and stuff.
Would have saved us a lot more salary cap space and I would hypothetically guarantee our W/L column would be the same. Do you think we would would have lost to Miami, NY or Warshington without Zeke? I don’t.
Do you think Zeke playing against NO was the difference maker in our loss? I do. 2nd most fumbles in the league last year by a large margin, fumbles again in a critical situation, averages 1.9 ypc. Pollard would have been just as productive and may very well not have fumbled the ball.

League leading rushers have proven to win championships, especially the ones that sit out
