Dead weight and regrets

Sorry if I stirred some feelings about your Ex’s in Texas - but let’s take a look…

Regrets -

Letting Dalton Schultz leave - he was a great cowboy. He got into the end zone damn good football player better than anything we have.

Paying Jake Ferguson - absolute regret. he hasn’t scored a touchdown in two years.

Paying Trevon Diggs - it is better to let a player go a year early than being stuck with him when he’s washed up and make no mistake - this guy couldn’t cover your Aunt Sally.

Paying Daron Bland - the money this guy received is absolutely ridiculous. He got paid because we are so bereft of talent in the secondary not because he is an elite player. He is a very good player who is also injury prone.

Letting Chauncey Gholston - a very good cowboy, who played hard and provided great depths. It also sends a bad message to the league when you let players like this walk. One of the few we’ve actually developed..

Caving to Prescott’s ridiculous contract demands and yes, he’s been very good. Let’s not shade him completely.- but if he wants to win a Super Bowl, he should’ve realized he needed to come in with a contract that was team friendly. Instead, he held our hands to the fire.
In the end, it cost us Parsons indirectly.

Putting any sort of faith in Overshown - yes I love him. I respect him. I hope he gets well, but this guy is made of papier-mâché. He was often injured in college. It was ridiculous to believe he was not gonna be hurt in the pros. We continue to make this mistake decade after decade Jerry’s fascination with draft day. Droppers has come back to bite him numerous times / too many to name but you know who they are.

Will McClay - this guy is nothing more than an average talent evaluator in the NFL. Yet Jerry holds onto him as if he has found some sort of guru - he’s done a horrendous job finding us linebackers finding us defensive backs finding us defensive tackles, finding us any sort of game changer.

Passing on Cam Skattebo - this dude lit up Texas stadium right in front of Jerry Jones and Will McClay and the whole clan of Jerry back patters - and yet not even a sniff about the dude. He was the exact guy I needed on this football team, a hard runner, a fan favorite, and a winner.
Bad

Not trading for Jalen Ramsey when he was right there for us.

Not signing Derrick Henry when he was waiting for us.

Not pursuing Sean Payton, a guy who wanted to coach the Cowboys.

Wasting two pics in the draft on running backs who aren’t even on the football team on Sundays.

Drafting Schoonmaker, what exactly does he do?

Drafting and paying Hunter Luekpe - what exactly does he do?

Wasting a pic on Shemar James ( another Will McClay job)

Dead Weight

I have never seen a worse lineman in Dallas that continues to just play week after week year after year than Steele . He is a god-awful football player.

Donovan, Wilson

Joe Milton is not a professional football player.

Schoonmaker

Spann

Kenneth Murray

Jack CFL Sanborn

Jalen Tolbert - a Will McClay special by the way.

Miles Sanders

Kair 17 yard Cushion Elam

Matt Eberflus

Dante Fowler ( this guy is completely washed)

Jonathan Mingo

Ryan Flournoy ( give me a break with this guy)

Damon Clark ( another McClay special)

You could get rid of every one of those guys and absolutely nobody would miss them.
You roll the dice and live with it.
.
What Prescott wanted and got IS ridiculous for his skill level, but good for him.

Do tell where you think we are better at tight end today I’ll wait.
You said he's better than anything we have. If you're talking about just at the TE position, please be more specific. 95 percent of the posters here would say that CJ is a better QB than Dak. Ferguson has doubled Dalton in receptions and yards this season, with a lesser (not my opinion) QB too. Dalton was too soft, imo.

I give credit for taking the time to type all of that out.

With that said.

Jerry and Stephen drafting on their own.
Vs Will McClay having a decent say.

When this team goes cheap on FAs.

Yeah, I know it is a popular thing to rail on Will like he is the problem.
He is not the problem

The one consistent through all the players, coaches and systems is...The Jones.

I can only imagine what they would be doing without McClay. We might be back to the special teams kind of drafts.
This right here ^^^^^

I’m talking about the TE position, Dalton Schultz got in the end zone simple as that he was great in the red zone.

When you got an amateur GM, what do you expect?
29 years of mediocrity happens for a reason.

I see your point with everything except Bland and Milton. Bland is good and his contract isn’t too outrageous. He’s hurt but that happens. Beebe got hurt and will miss 6-8 weeks. That doesn’t make him a regretted draft pick it just makes him human.

How can Milton be dead weight when he’s on a rookie contract and he was a 6th rounder? That contract is cheap. We don’t know exactly what Milton is unless Dak gets hurt. So hopefully we never get to see him play. Having a backup QB for less than or close to a million a year is a good deal. I can see why people hated Lance because he was paid 5 million to be an emergency QB. Milton is getting paid 1 million (I think), I disagree he is dead weight. Unless we have different definitions of what dead weight means.

I like Bland - not at $92 million

Yeah he was bad. So was Kelvin Joseph. Those are 2 second rounders that really hurt us. Did you mention Mazi and Taco? Those also really hurt.
BrainPaint got Mazi - I forgot we had this stiff.

Every single one of those players give 100% to be the best. They are professional athletes. They did not choose the Cowboys. The Cowboys chose them.

Getting drafted at whatever round and getting paid whatever money was not their sole decision.

The OP could have saved himself some considerable time by summarizing the real issue:

Every regret and every ounce of dead weight can be located in an office with a title on the door that reads, "General Manager"

I agree with 99% of what you said. Have to disagree on Scattebo. The guy ran for 44 yds. He had 24 on 1 carry. If that's lighting up the Stadium, our guy must have lit up Texas. Yeah Scattebo is pretty tough but slower than molasses. He's not going to last long in the league. Too reckless. I give him his rookie contract. He'll be out of the league.
Scattebo totally looks like he could be a character in Trailer Park Boys.
44 yards, we missed out for sure....lol

Will McClay - this guy is nothing more than an average talent evaluator in the NFL. Yet Jerry holds onto him as if he has found some sort of guru
Some day I really wish someone would explain to me why McClay gets bashed so much when it's crystal clear HE DOES NOT DRAFT THE PLAYERS!

I'm surprised you didn't open with letting Jimmy go followed by not drafting Moss, what a shine of sunlight.
