Deandre Jordan screws up the Mavs

I'm no Mavs fan but I do find it a bit despicable how a man's handshake isn't worth anything anymore. Deandra Jordan had a gentleman's agreement last Friday to sign with the Dallas Mavericks and now he has totally gone back on his word and re-signed with the Clippers. IMO, the Mavs are so screwed now. Please discuss.

IMO what went down while reflects on Jordan; the root of the problem is Cuban. The guy is like a ping pong ball. Always bouncing around doing and saying different things. There is no stability to him and personally, I wouldn't want to work with someone so unstable. My best friend one minute, then I'm a castoff the next. How could anyone with the exception of Dirk trust him with their livelihood? He even **** on Steve Nash.

Jerry has problems, but at least his players trust him to do right by them. Cuban? **** no.

While I agree with every word you say about Cuban... that's no excuse for shaking the mans hand one week and slapping him in the face the next. At least have the decency to call the man up and warn him you have changed your mind. What DeAndre did was so messed up.

The people that I know that currently do work for Cuban or those that have worked for Cuban in the past universally consider him to be an outstanding boss.

And almost all the players that the Mavs have allowed to walk over the years still call him a great owner. Almost all would gladly return.

He did blow the Nash deal a decade ago though, yes.

Jordan a had right to change his mind, but he handled it a massively spineless manner.
And yes, he screwed the franchise in so many ways by how this went down. The 15 year playoff streak is probably done, Chandler was allowed to leave, and the future in general looks pretty dire....though I'm sure they'll be fine in a few years.

You are clearly missing the point. Changing his mind is not the issue, it's how he went about it. No warning what so ever. He knew he was having second thoughts a few days ago. He could have gaven Cuban a heads up about the situation rather than just backing out and leaving Cuban caught with his pants down and no good options.

That's nice. Players can and do change their minds. How he handled it is another matter.

My original post was not an all inclusive details of the story and all the details still haven't been discussed. If you follow the discussion in another post you'll see how I discussed how he handled it was the main thing he did was wrong. And I added a link to give a few more details.

No they are different details in the same issue.

He's clearly grown up over time, as an owner/manager and a person. (That sounds a lot like JJ as well)

He and the entourage could have also used lock-up tactics, but they trusted the 26 yr old to take care of business. They addressed any and all questions and needs and doubts; they felt comfortable that they had a deal, and Mark knows something about deals.

So, DAJ has identified himself as immature -- not really too surprising, and one of the big challenges in dealing with these overpaid kids.

They just don't know how to handle such situations, especially being raised in a culture that rewards disrespect.
