This is going off a tangent, but isn't Marv Lewis supposed to be a defensive genius? So why have his CIN D's s_cked every year?

Were not Dave Wannstedt, Butch Davis and Dave Campo supposedly defensive gurus while coordinators only to be be men with losing records as head coaches.DawnOfANewD;1608592 said:This is going off a tangent, but isn't Marv Lewis supposed to be a defensive genius? Wade Phillips is supposed to be a "defensive" genius as well and his head coaching record is two games above .500, we shall see what he does in Dallas, a place not lacking in talent unlike Buffalo and Denver were during his tenures.

All three of those men commanded number one defenses and were coordinators during Dallas' three super bowl campaigns of the last decade. Nothing shotty about what they did defensively.Bob Sacamano;1608611 said:unlike those other guys, Wade's Ds have generally done well, at least in the sack department, his Buffalo Ds were pretty talented
here's another name for you, Brian Billick

Campo's dc was Zimmer plus even Landry and Jimmy Johnson couldn't win with bad defenses. I think Campo gets scapegoated for too much, bad timing hurt an otherwise decent coach, a so called players coach who's style was not all that different than Wade's.Bob Sacamano;1608708 said:true, but they had some great players on their Ds, notice what happened to Campo's D when he was the HC when the talent was lacking in that department? my point is that Wade's Ds have generally done well wherever he's gone whether as HC or DC, he knows how to spot talent there and utilize it

Mistakes were made but not all of them were in Campo's basket.
