Deangelo Smith CB

Completely agree. And he's not that fast, good in man coverage or a secure tackler/big hitter.

A little small though for a safety.

Seems a bit undersized for a safety... but I could be wrong.

Same size as Rashad Johnson. 5'11", 200lbs.

We gave up 5th round pick #156 and 7th round Pick #210

Good point. I've been playing too much Madden lately, all of my safeties are 6-2, 215 lol

Negatives: Fits best in a zone system where he can see the play in front of him and close on the ball. ... Plays near the line at times but does not get his hands on receivers. ... Gambles to get to the ball. ... Only adequate straight-line speed. ... Has trouble adjusting to the ball in the air and making the interceptions when moving backward. ... Has a tough time getting off wide receiver's blocks due to his lack of size and upper-body strength. ... Gets turned around easily. ... Lacks the suddenness to handle quick slot receivers. ... Not a physical tackler. ... Whiffs on attempts to cut tackle because he ducks his head. ... Questionable ball security, decision-making and speed as a punt returner.

Just what I was hoping for, another guy on defense that cant tackle.:laugh2:

14. DeAngelo Smith, Cincinnati 5-11, 190
Mike Mickens might have been the best player in the Cincinnati secondary, but it was Smith’s defensive backfield. A good starter who’s willing to help out against the run and has no problems being physical, but he’s just not a good enough athlete to be a regular NFL starter. His 4.5 in the 40 was solid, and his 17 reps on the bench were eye-opening, but was the slowest corner at the Combine in the agility drills and had the low 31.5” in the vertical leap. He’ll likely make his money down the road as a safety and will be a regular in the rotation because of his toughness and character, but there’s a hard ceiling on what he can do.
CFN Projection: Third Round

Deangelo Smith

Strengths:
Good athleticism...Ideal height...Super physical...Nice hands and ball skills...Flips his hips well...Aggressive...Rangy...Active with a good motor...Decent instincts and awareness...Versatile with experience at more than one position...Nice change of direction skills...Quick to break on the ball...A very willing run defender...Can also return kicks.

Weaknesses:
Does not have great speed or quickness...Misses some tackles...Allows a big cushion...Gives up too much separation...May struggle to match up in man coverage...Has some trouble shedding blocks...Throws caution to the wind and gambles...Limited schematically?..A 'tweener?

Notes:
Was a two-year starter for the Bearcats...Named 2nd Team All-Big East in both 2007 and 2008...Intercepted 11 passes and returned 5 for touchdowns during his senior season in high school...Started at both cornerback and safety in college...Best fit at the next level might come in a zone scheme...Was overshadowed by Mike Mickens throughout his career at Cincinnati but is a terrific pro prospect in his own right and could even be selected ahead of his more highly-touted teammate.

CFN Projection: Third Round

Ourlads ranks him as a 3rd/4th rounder, PWF as a 2nd/3rd rounder, and thehuddlereport as a early 4th rounder.

Seems like we got decent value.

High character & toughness, good production, limited upside. STer who could start in a pinch. A Brock Marion type, w/out the speed.

I guess a value pick.

So, has everyone warmed up to seeing Stanback alot more? I hope so.

Good point Pappa: projected in 3rd round: I GUESS WE STOLE HIM......at least this will get all the people howling about some of the other picks and how we reached to chill out....for a minute or less that is.

Orlando Scandrick was a 3rd round prospect we nabbed in the 5th (and traded up for, too, I believe). Hopefully we get similar results.

Not crazy about trading up for this guy.

He timed at 4.46. How much faster does he have to be?
