DeAngelo Williams or Julius Jones?

Let's say you had a great 3rd down change-of-pace RB, but you tried to use him as an everydown back.

How would you expect this 3rd down back to perform as an everydown back?

It would probably be pretty similar what Julius Jones has done so far.

That's my worry about Julius Jones. He has yet to show that he's truly cut out to be an every down NFL back.

A 1st round RB isn't a high priority for the Cowboys today, but it wouldn't be a crazy move....

he had 20 or more carries in a game 8 times in 13 starts last yr...and as a rookie he had 20+ carries in the last 7 games he played in, including 30+ in 3 straight games

if you are going to say he isnt an every down back because of injury, then you cant possibly think Deangelo Williams is an everydown back either...he's been hurt and missed games all through his college career....Jones' injuries werent little "dings" or "bruises" either...broken bones and severely sprained knees are injuries almost no RB can play with (if any)

if our braintrust has Williams in their top-10, we need a new braintrust

Maybe, maybe not. Many people have him rated high:
Kiper has him rated #18
Great Blue North = #14
Frank Coyle = #14

and those guy build which NFL team's draft boards?

but since you mentioned it...PFW in its latest rankings has Williams 23rd, Gosselin has him 25...Kirwin and Mayock both have him 27

Jones all the way. Unless ding dong el dorado gets injured, your mom is gunna have room to run all day long this year. (sorta makes it hard to root for an injury for the guy when he can dictate to the defense how they play). Jones has the moves and vision. We saw that in 2004. My god the guy can move like I dont know what, swivel hips like sanders but its all going forward, no backwards dancing, remember Jones in his rookie year. Now imagine that with a defense fearing ding dong el dorado and leaving a LB to cover Jones.

If we have any kind of line, you could be looking at an offense that resembles the early 90's offense. A "can score at will, will tell you what we were doing, its still up to you to stop us, we dont think you can!" type offense. Barring injuries to Bledsoe and ding dong, it dont matter whos back there, Paul Palmer would look like an all pro RB in this offense. All predicated on an upgraded O-line. I cant wait to see what Jones does this year. I think pple are gunna love this kid after they see him with a real line and a ding dong fearing defense to run against.

PS. again, ding dong has to become the team player for this to work, If he doesn't, we are gunna think its paul palmer running the ball again this year. Better cross your fingers and your toes on this one.

I aint saying he's a gold digger, but he aint messing with no broke..broke...broke

Just to be clear, I like Julius Jones. It would be great if he turned out to be the answer. He hasn't been that answer so far, though. Not consistently.

And, on the other hand, of course, he's missed a bunch of games, and performed poorly in several games last year.

Again, if you had a great 3rd down back and tried to make him an every down back, his performance would probably be pretty similar to what Julius Jones has done so far in the NFL.

I'm not saying that Williams is the every down back that Julius Jones may not be. All I'm sayiing is that it wouldn't be crazy for the Cowboys to consider drafting an everydown back.

At some point, when these kinds of injuries become a regular event, could be that you are asking the guy to do things that he's really not cut out to be.

Remember what Parcells said to John Madden about Julius Jones during Jones' rookie training camp? Parcells said that Jones reminded Parcells of Clarence Davis. That's telling.

and again, for you people harping on JJ having two injuries in two yrs (both fairly serious injuries), then you have to say something about DeAngelo Williams missing games EVERY yr in college as well...

as for your Clarence Davis thing, I also recall Parcells saying he reminded him of Curtis Martin too

My bad, I forgot you do have access to NFL team draft boards so you know: a) where NFL teams have him ranked
b) plus, how good he will be in the NFL

The question isnt DeAngelo vs JuJo,who's better, the question is what happens to our season if we dont get production from the RB spot. We can always bring in a vet QB if Bledsoe is hurt. We still have some people to throw to if TO is hurt. We can still play defense if one of the studs there gets hurt but to me the dropoff between a healthy JuJo and Barber is huge, much bigger than many people think. Williams reminds me a lot of Barry Sanders or maybe even Joe Morris Parcells former little back.

I think us taking a rb is the big "shocker" of todays 1st rd (if we have one.) If Maroney or Williams is taken by us it means Parcells has no faith in Barber to pick up the slack if Jones isnt healthy.

You guys have gotta give Julius Jones time. His injuries are virtually unavoidable. Tell him to put a rabbit's foot in his pocket, don't trade him for a second...

Which back would you rather have? Or, to put it another way, who will have the better career - DeAngelo or Julius? For some reason DeAngelo reminds me a lot of #22. What about we trade down a few spots, get a 4th round pick, and pick DeAngelo? Then we trade Julius for an early second round pick and a maybe a 5th rounder. That way we load up on early draft picks, and we upgrade at tailback.

I know - it'll never happen. But wouldn't some serious draft day drama be fun!

I like Julius Jones better because of his experience... He's a original Cowboy... If Julius Jones can come on early in the season he's a keeper.. That's his only problem that's why I could really see Cowboys trading Julius Jones off...

But Julius Jones could possibly come on this year, if he does what Parcells tells him to do...
