There were always ads at the bottom of the page. The only difference is with the new ad network the bottom ad sticks to the bottom of the browser window.

We show ads to help support the site, but if you would like to not see ads you can donate to become a Legions of Fan Member and they will be removed for a year ..

The ads have taken over. My feed is jumping all over the place. Sometimes I can’t make a post unless I kill the browser and start over. It’s ridiculous.

The cost of operation doesn't pay for itself. As @Reality noted above, there's a way to make the ads disappear.
