After watching the Detroit Lions use Robert Griffin III as a practice dummy, I texted a head coach, one whom I know is a huge RG3 fan, to get his thoughts. His immediate reply: "I have never, ever, on any level, seen a head coach treat his quarterback with such a lack of respect."

Please explain.

The coach does, beginning with the game tape of the offensive line. "It's easy to see that the line play was in shambles," the coach said. "That happens, especially this time of year.

So much delicious more here:

Then there was the almost unbelievable remark from Gruden that RG3 needs to get up faster after getting hit...

Delicious.

I can't see how it could happen at this point, but I'd love it if RGIII were to bottom out, get his act together, and then come to Dallas where he can work on his mechanics and eventually play behind a good OL for a few years. Just for what it would do to Sk*ns fans everywhere.

I don't care much for RG 3 but what Grudin did to him is sickening. I can't picture any other team leaving their starting QB in a pre-season game just to get grilled into the turf. Only in Washington.

Gruden's reasoning behind it was something along the lines of we suck, he sucks, our offense sucks, he needs the reps, we were 4-12 last year. Can't really argue with him.

Looks to be what happens when your owner still calls the shots.

Gruden probably doesn't want to have to go with RG3 but Snyder won't budge. Gruden's response, "Okay then, I'll either get him injured or make you a laughing stock in the clubhouse. Enjoy."

"the way some dog owners stupidly rub their pooch's noses in poop to keep them from eliminating on the carpet again."

Stick to coaching.

Some would say he's currently the 3rd best QB on the roster.
Where's the uproar when the other two are playing?

You evil *******, may the foundation of your fancy stadium falter and give Ole Jerrah a stroke that leaves him even uglier than he already is.

You have to admit, if the situation were reversed, it'd be pretty awesome. :)

In my honest opinion, Gruden has been doing everything he could to get fired in Washington so that he can walk away and get paid for several years to not coach.

The Commanders are a mess top to bottom. RGIII is only part of the equation but damn he does suck.

I think Gruden realized early last season what a complete trainwreck the organization is and refuses to get undermined by RGIII the same way that Shanahan was. Griffin always has excuses built in on why he cannot perform on the field and Snyder placates that. The owner wants Griffin, so if you are Gruden, why the heck would you not put him out there? He called the plays that he would have called for Cousins and McCoy.

I think he saw what Shanahan was able to do - get paid $7 million not to coach - and is attempting the same thing. Gruden's 5-year $20 million contract is fully guaranteed. He could get fired today and still be set. And he knows it. I see nothing that he's brought to the table since his arrival and yo me looks like a guy trying to take the money and run.
