Debate is Over! Roy Williams is clearly better than Sean Taylor!

While watching some of the Commanders-Eagles game, I was shocked at how poorly Sean Taylor played. On one play, he got torched by Donte Stallworth for a long touchdown pass. On another play, he missed a tackle on C. Buckhalter that allowed Buckhalter to score a touchdown.

Beyond this game, Taylor, a free safety, has been getting burnt on a regular basis. All of the Commanders homers who think Taylor is a better safety always point to Roy's limitations in pass coverage. However, Taylor who is supposed to be a better coverage guy has given up more big plays than Williams this season.

I know that Williams has given up a few big plays himself but not with the frequency that Taylor has. Also, Williams is a strong safety not a free safety so Taylor should be better in pass coverage while Williams IS better in run support. Please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Roy have more interceptions than Taylor?

The debate really is over!

I don't think the debate is over. Both players have their limitations. Taylor is clearly having a down year but the Commanders defense just isn't very talented and even Gregg Williams can't hide their lack of talent.

As a Cowboy fan, as much talk that I see between Roy and Taylor I think the best safetey in the East is still Brian Dawkins.

Man, Taylor was just brutally bad... it wasn't just getting beat like a rented mule, he committed two different personal foul penalties as well...

Thats the thing. Roy might miss some passes :bang2: but he doesnt get penalized like this punk.

To me, they are the same player on the field. But I'll take the one that isn't a punk and doesn't go around pointing guns at people or spitting on opponents.

I don't think it's ever been an honest debate to start with. Taylor's always been playing catchup with Roy ... and he never has.

Just a minor note...I'm sure someone will look it up, but Taylor has to have more forced fumbles...seems like every time I watch the Skins, he causes a fumble. Like Roy, he'd probably be better at SS....he's a huge hitter and stopper in the run game, and he has a knack for being round the ball, like picking up our blocked FG last week.

Still, he has been a punk, and we don't need any more of those...I'll take Roy, especially if Watkins becomes the FS we hope he will be.

I think Roy will have a chance to prove himself further this Sunday against Dallas Clark...we need him to blanket that guy.

haha, i was just talking to someone bout this the other day

I think Roy and Taylor are identical players...Sean's a better athlete than Roy with worse character.

Both give up a lot of big plays and on the flip side, make alot of huge plays that can change games. Neither are entirely reliable but both are very very exciting players

I would hope the Bar, the Standard level of play BP and everyone is looking for is higher than the level of play put forth by Mr. Taylor.

As pointed out, The Bar is likely set by Dawkins, of current players

Taylor gives up way more big plays than RW does, and Taylor doesnt make anywhere near as many plays as RW does

RW is one of the best safeties in the league, Taylor aint...period.

There was a debate?

I thought that was just Commanders fans talking and nobody else listening.

I think it's pretty funny that in the thread that skinsngibbs started on ES, one ES poster essentially admitted that they are homers for Taylor and rated him as about the 12th best safety in the league.

I thought the same thing when I saw him on both plays. A really weak tackle on Buckhalter and an absolute smoke job on Stallworth. It's a wonder Taylor didn't break an ankle. Stallworth left him 15 yards behind him.
