I don't care about bigger and stronger...Don't care about caped and uncaped. Not trying to hear about talent or watered down. what is the bottom line? Who really was the best team. 72 Dolphins,85 Bears,78 Steelers,92 Cowboys?

Ill take my boys.

We didn't really have a weakness at all on that team.

Great offense that just so happened to have the #1 defense in the league.

I think the 9ers team we beat could've beaten some of the teams on this list too.

Another one of those questions that can't be answered as they never got to play one another.

since the '92 'boys were up against the best athletes, better than any of those other squads

I'd have to go with them

and I'm biased

Me too. I remember VIVIDLY thinking that the team we assembled then was the most dominant team I had ever watched--and I don't mean that simply because I love me some Cowboys either.

Every game we played (even the loses) I knew that I was watching history, and that there was no team in the NFL like those guys--nobody was even close.

That is because you are correct. The others here have been drinking too much koolaid.

The '72 Fins did not lose a game. There is nothing more to say because nothing more could be asked of them.

The '92 Cowboys did not even have the best record in the conference. The '92 Cowboys got thrashed by the Eagles 31-7. They lost to a 6-10 Rams team. And, oh yeah, the '92 Cowboys lost to the Commanders. The Cowboys did beat up on the Bills in the Super Bowl but, then again, so did everyone at that time.

So, undefeated team vs. team that lost big to the Eagles and also lost to a sorry Rams squad. No brainer. Fins win.

Uh Oh, better run now. I hear a chant and the distinct glow of torches belonging to a lynching mob in the distance.

Are those my only choices?

The 1948 Browns also went undefeated and won the championship, but that was in the AAFC. In terms of dominating the competition they are far and away the greatest team ever. The NFL doesn't recognize the AAFC stats but they do for the AFL, which is BS. It's not like the Browns were just beating up on a bunch of chump teams, the 49ERs with Y.A. Tittle, as well as the NY Yankees were very good teams. The Browns beat the defending NFL champs in their first game in the NFL and won the title that year (1950) as well. They went 11-1 twice in 1951 & 1953 against NFL competition, so the BS that their records in the AAFC were somehow tainted doesn't hold water.

The 1962 Packers went 13-1 and won the title. They had an amazing team overall but it was their pass defense that was truly dominating. They gave up an incredible 148.9 yards passing per game and their opponent passer rating was 43.4! The QBs they faced were not a bunch of scrubs either: Johnny Unitas, Sonny Jurgensen, Y.A. Tittle, John Brodie, Fran Tarkenton, Don Meredith, & Roman Gabriel. That's 4 HoFers plus 3 other guys who were Pro Bowl QBs.

Going undefeated does not automatically make you the best, it just means that you won all of the games. The 1972 Dolphins played a weak schedule. That exact same team was obliterated in the SB by the 1971 Cowboys. Had we faced them in the SB in 1972 we would have ruined their undefeated season. The 1985 Bears were a better team than the '72 Dolphins IMO. They truly dominated their opponents and only lost the Dolphins that year because of Dan Marino.

As for the best teams, I would rank them this way:

1. 1948 Browns
2. 1962 Packers
3. 1992 Cowboys
4. 1985 Bears
5. 1989 49ERs
6. 1978 Stealers
7. 1977 Cowboys
8. 1972 Dolphins

Good question, I 'm going to go with the 85 Bears, that defense was not human. All the other teams had very good defense's also, very good I'm just going to give the nod to the Bears.

I agree with you about the Browns, the Packers, and the Bears. Those were all very good teams.

I continue to disagree with you about the Dolphins. They were not the "exact" same team in '72 as '71 - not only did they jiggle some personnel, but some young bucks in '71 grew up and became seasoned vets during '72. It is problematic to criticize them for their schedule since they didn't choose it and couldn't change it. And they won every single game by an average of 15 points a game. They were rarely challenged at all and had no "off" games.

As for your claim that the '72 Cowboys would have beaten the Dolphins, well, the Cowboys had their chance. Instead of beating the Dolphins, the Cowboys were soundly trounced from the playoffs 26-3. I won't mention who beat them. But to say the Cowboys would have won if they had a chance ignores the historical fact that the Cowboys did have a chance.

The 92,93,and 95 Cowboys team would have beat any of those teams mentioned in the Superbowl.
