I re-watched that game yesterday on NFL game-pass. Thinking back I recalled it being probably our best defensive effort for the year last year. We employed a number of blitz's and stunts and did put a lot of pressure on Cousins. Lawrence go 2 quick sacks and overall the D played great. At LBer, Lee had a heck of a game.

I remember thinking why we didn't play that "style" more often up to that game and we never really went back to it after that game. Anyone else recall thinking the same?

Rivalry game. Nuff said.

Without the Dwayne Harris late return for a TD, Cassel beats the Skins and Giants. Blows every other game

I remember that, and thought too, why can't they do that more often. This was addresses in a PC. and they said you just can't play that style against every team. They felt they could in that game, but the next game the matchups would not let them blitz as much.

I think more or less the success came from guys just wanting to give the Skins their best

Interesting, because I also watched the last game of the year, also against the Skins and they smoked us for 21 points in the first quarter.

Anyhow, the Dec 7th was a pleasure to watched and the team seemed stoked to play defense. Cassel sucked and we still won.

Anyhow, I thought we were setup for things to come and the defense turned a corner, only to be disappointed the following week against GB.

I understand the offense playing vanilla since Romo was out, but it seems like our D also played pretty vanilla last year.

They played conservatively on defense for the most part week to week because they feared falling behind because they knew they could not score many points. It worked in most games until the defense finally broke.

Marinelli hates to blitz normally, so that game was an outlier.

Our defense is terrible. No sense sugar coating it.

I saw a lot of skins fans saying they sat a lot of their starters. I didn't really see much of the game so I don't know.

I remember the game. Lee was phenomenal.

But, I could see why we didn't use this more often. We just don't have the DB's for it. We more or less caught Washington off guard. If we did that earlier on we may have caught a team off guard, but that wasn't going to happen week after week.

I'll say this for the millionth time. We won't get pressure on the QB until we can start to effectively switch up our coverages and then disguise them pre-snap.

Are you thinking of the season finale on January 3rd, when the Skins wrapped up the division?
That game they pulled some starters after it got ugly fast.

The game on December 7th was still when the NFC East was up for grabs for all 4 teams.

I wish Rod called more games like that, especially when we had injuries and little depth along the front 4.

Those who insist on blaming the defense last year really have no clue what they are talking about. The problem last year was the Offense (without Romo) not the Defense. in 2014 the Cowboys Offense scored 28.4 PPG, In 2015 the Cowboys scored 17.2 PPG. That's over 11 PPG difference. In 2014 the Cowboys Defense gave up 22.6 PPG, in 2015 the Cowboys Defense gave up 22.6 PPG. That's less then 1 point. In MY Opinion the Jones have tried every year to better the team. 2014 was a great year. Last year Romo, Bryant, Scandrick were all hurt. That will all be back this year and I think our offense will be unstoppable! And if they are the Defense wont be on the field nearly as long as they were last year. https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-points-per-game

Our problem has been on defense for years. Most seasons, the offense can cover it up. Last year we could not.

11 team takeaways is not going to get it done. Compound it with last year's giveaways and you get 4-12, but even with a good offense we're constantly playing at a disadvantage against more complete teams.

Oh well. At least we fixed our RB problem with our highest draft pick.

For years? What was the Defensives problem in 2014?

Last year teams didn't need to gamble because our offense was no threat and couldn't move the ball. Go ahead and ignore the offensive problems last year, the numbers say differently. With a better offense or defense will become a much better team. even with the same players. Imagine that.

I disagree. They aren't great, but they never really got a break last year. Constant 3 and outs from the offense are never going to help.

You disagree about what? How bad they are? So how bad or good do you think they are?

Im not blaming anyone for anything. I am just stating the obvious. Our defense is NOT good. That goes for the last how many years?

Your ignoring the offenses woes of last year and contributed greatly to our record. You cant win if you cant score or move the ball. Neither happened offensively last year. Your also ignoring how good our defense was in 2014. Yes or Defense is not great. But they are not to blame for the problems last year.

As stated above.. The defense wasnt terrible, if anything, they were left out on the field way too long. The OFFENSE was offensive. The defense will be fine. Playmaking ability is predicated on taking chances that our team, unfortunately, just couldn't take due to dismal offensive production. And for those that say the FO didn't do anything to upgrade, just aren't paying attention. Our first round pick last year, Byron Jones is an upgrade at FS. Thornton is an upgrade over GoldenCock. A healthy Tyron Crawford is an upgrade of himself. Arguably, our best CB is returning. We have a solid LBer core. And if 1-2 of the muliple young DL guys make the jump year two in this scheme, our defense will be top 10 when playing with a lead that the strength of the team will provide.
