We're about 10 mill under the cap right now (guesstimating with a 145 mill cap figure). Using salary cap calculator. Keep in mind, these are just the major moves, churning isn't taken into account as far as cuts/etc.
Cut:
Carr (Jun 1) - 8 mill savings
Murray - Not cut, but he's probably going to walk.
I'm pretty sure the June 1 cut means the salary stays on the cap until June 1, so this number won't be taken into account yet, but will be beneficial later.
Restructure:
Tyron - His contract is basically meant to be restructured, with the amount of years and his age, I expect him to play every day of that contract. Restructure and save 8 mill on cap. Cap number = 18 mill
Romo - He's the man for the next 2-3 years, let's face it. If you restructure 10mil this year, you save 8mill on the cap and you're only taking a 5 mill cap hit in 2018, when you'd expect him finally be replaced anyway. Cap number = 26mill
Re-sign:
Melton - I think Melton is having a down year coming off surgery. I don't think market value is 9 mill so we may be able to re-negotiate but in 3 years with the cap increasing, it could be a bargain. Being two deep at the 3 with Crawford and Melton is crucial, in my opinion, and the best thing about it is the option being picked up at 9mill has already been accounted.
Doug Free - Doug isn't the best guy but the line has chemistry with him. I assume a re-negotiation will be worked out, and his cap number will be much lower than it is currently, but for the sake of this I'll just assume he stays at his current figure.
Dez - I expect him to sign, we don't really want to wait another offseason as contracts are getting larger to get locked into a much bigger deal than we could have signed in the first place. I think he'll sign a long term contract, and i'll guesstimate it at a 2015 cap number of 13mill. Cap number = 13mill
Rolando - I have no idea what this guy's going to get. I expect a 2-3 year deal with the third being non-guaranteed, and I think we'll get a bargain, if he can stay sane. 2015 cap # of 3mill. Cap number = 10 mill
FA:
Jabal Sheard - I really don't know much about this guy but he was more productive than Selvie/Mincey were with his hand on the ground. He's young, and if he can give us more pass rush and a little leeway in the draft, you grab him. He could probably be had pretty cheap compared to a guy like Hughes since apparently he's been playing OLB which he isn't very good at. 2015 cap number of 3mill. Cap number = 7mill
Darius Butler - I don't know much about the FA CB's either, but I'll just throw this name out to come in and provide competition. Cap hit = 2 mill, Cap number = 5 mill
Adrian Peterson - I don't think Jerry will be able to help himself, honestly. I can't even imagine how giddy he's going to be on the phone chatting up AD while sipping his Johnny Walker Blue. Cap # 2015 = 5 mill. Cap number = 0.
Puts us right next to the cap, but we will get the 8 mill from the June 1 cut of Carr. I think more room will be squeezed from the Melton/Free re-negotiations to fit in a Durant, etc, or they could restructure more of Tony's salary. His dead money after 2017 isn't really worth worrying about compared to the "supposed" cap numbers for those years.
Draft:
1) There's always a team wanting to trade back into the first. I think we find a partner and trade down a bit for an extra third.
With the high 2nd rounder we take Nate Orchard DE, Utah - We need pass rushing defensive ends in the worst way. He's available at our pick and we take him. A lot of production from this guy and will show a real youth movement on the DL with Demarcus and Jabal. Also ends the Selvie/Spencer era.
2) Alex Carter CB, Stanford - Since there's no real scouting reports done at this time of year and everything is really just opinion and projection, what I have read about this guy is he's aggressive, is a capable re-router, and he's a great tackler. With this scheme, re-routing and tackling is critical. Sad to say we need talent at CB after the resources we burned in Ryan's scheme, but right now it's looking pretty weak for next season. If he turns out to be what I've read, he instantly upgrades the secondary.
3a.) Garrett Grayson QB, Colorado State - Romo isn't getting any younger, and this guy seems like a capable prospect. Have him sit a few years, get used to the speed of the game, and hopefully you have your heir apparent.
3b.) Jake Fisher T, Oregon - You didn't think just because we re-negotiated with Free, we wouldn't continue building the Great Wall? You thought wrong. I think Parnell is released, as much as that will pain xwalker. Free isn't getting any younger either and his game has always been his footwork and savvy, which I think is fair to say fade quickly in Tackles. It's a pretty deep draft class for OT, and I think he gives us leverage in case we let Free walk next season. I'd give this guy a year behind Free to pick up the game, and he's an instant upgrade Year 2, improving our already talented line.
First 3 rounds only.
I was tempted to take a RB but I think Jerry is going hard after AD and will be content with an AD/Randle/Dunbar backfield. A LB crossed my mind too but I think they're counting on Lee, McClain, Durant/Hitchens to form their core. Really, I just tried to improve the team as realistically as possible. We're still like 15-20 mill under the cap for 2016 so we'd be more than capable of adding more talent then as well.
Don't flame too hard, bro's.
