Deep CB Market Plays A Factor In Teams Interest in Byron

There are a plethora of good to solid corners available this offseason. I am not suggesting the team sign a CB to a big long term deal, if they wanted to do that they'd sign Byron. A 1 or 2 year prove it/stopgap deal works great for us in this situation, as it allows us two drafts to replenish that position group. Another factor in the teams disinterest in Jones

I like Byron, but man we need a playmaker at CB.

He wants top CB money, but he simply does not make enough splash plays to warrant it. No matter how good a cover corner he is. He deserves a raise, but there is a limit. Just like there is a limit to his playmaking abilities.

One lower cost but solid veteran, resign Brown, and pick in the 2nd or 3rd round seems sufficient to me to secure the position.

I guess the question becomes what the price difference is in someone like Byron compared to the others. If the prices arent way off then I think Byron would be the best option.

I do think If we let him go, and it seems likely at this point, we need a true number 1 DB to replace him and I'm not sure where we get that player at a reasonable cost.

Even if you draft a corner in round one, does he instantly replace Jones? I mean its possible even a rookie/stop gap could come in a produce a couple of turnovers which is my biggest complaint about Jones, but I'm not sure you trust them to take on someone like Michael Thomas for a whole game.

I understand why paying him alot of money could bother alot of people because he doesnt ever get his hands on the ball, but I do think replacing him may be harder then some believe.

Pretty much what I was thinking. Will any of the FA's be any better than Jones. So comes down to the contract. I think they want to get Dak and or Cooper done before they have to make a decision. But may run out of time.
And agree, drafting a CB does not mean instant success. I think they wait until day 3 to draft any. As Awuzie and Lewis can be the CB's, and sign Brown to a 2 year deal for the slot.

I believe they will draft a CB before safety but I could be wrong but their history is they dont value the position.I think this is a deep draft at CB and WR 2 positions I envision being addressed in draft. Im not a huge Byron guy he dont make enough plays for me but it may be easier to replace Cooper than Byron. ? is do they want to overpay for 2 people this off-season or 3

I hope the deep CB market does effect Byron so that we are able to keep him and get him coached up to go for INTs rather than swat the ball down.

Looking at that list it doesn’t look like a deep outside CB market to me. There are two legit #1’s on the list under 30, Jones & Bradberry. There is a bunch of decent slots but those are easier to find.

If you read the post, I am not saying to go out and sign a CB1, if we were doing that we would just resign Byron.

I’m looking at 1/2 year deals that allow us to be competent at the position while we spend the next draft or two getting young talent to take the reigns for the future. No FA CB this year is worth 15-16M/Y.

Slot CBs: AB, Dennard, Mackenzie(o), Fuller(o)

Talking 1-2 year deals there's a lot to work with because some of these guys could bounce back in a new setting for various reasons like: Roby, Darby, Hargreaves, Dennard, PJ Williams, Mackenzie, and Fuller.

These guys aren't gonna demand a high dollar count, but could be a steal of a contract under the right conditions.
