Won't be easy. Here's what I would do:
  • Put Byron Jones on Zach Ertz - he is Wentz's primary weapon. Byron is our best pass defender.
  • Put Chido/Brown on Jeffrey/Tate - Travel or not; these are good receivers - so are our CBs.
  • Put Lewis on Sproles - Another Cowboy killer, but Lewis was effective against Kamara, a similar RB.
  • Put Jaylon at Spy - Don't let Wentz escape and kill us on an improv play.
  • Blitz early - make Wentz uncomfortable, like we did Brees.
  • Bring Irving in mostly on 3rd Down - keep him fresh, allow him to knock off rust; batted balls are key.
Eagles seem to be getting into a rhythm in the passing game these past 2 games. Playing a similar blueprint to the Saints and causing early disruption to Wentz, especially up the middle, will be key to the defense getting off the field (I hope).

I was thinking play more dime D like they did with the Saints, put Lewis on Ertz. Not concerned with Sproles as much, as the LB's can come up to tackle him. They seem to send Sproles more to the outside. And our LB's go sideline to sideline extremely well. Just string out the play, and they will get to him.

But can Lewis cover Ertz, is this the type of D Dallas plays.

But Byron at CB, you do not take him away from the to cover Ertz at TE.

Maybe Jaylon does spy Ertz, Lewis on Sproles or any other RB. Lee mans the other LB spot with LVE.

I don't think Irving will play.

I agree with this, not the OP's concept of putting Byron on Ertz. I'd rather have Byron neutralize Tate. Honestly, I'd not make assignments and play more base and take the matchups as they come, with the exception here. Zone shell with man/zone concepts and get the right pressure.

This defense is good, let it do what it does best.

They had Byron travel last week. They might well do it again. Heath on Ertz wasn't a good matchup for us in game one. I do worry about Jeffrey, though, on either of the other CBs. That dude has such long arms he's hard to single up on if you're not getting a ton of pressure on Wentz.

Richard doesn't like our corners to travel, but that's a good proposal.

The key to this game is going to be to put Wentz on the ground. We haven't played Sproles in awhile, so I'm not sure what he's capable of, but the rest of the RB committee shouldn't be able to burn us.

I thought Witten views on covering Ertz is correct. Get physical with him off the line of scrimmage and knock him off his routs, force Wentz to get rid of the ball quickly and make solid tackles.

I agree he Jeffrey is worthy of more than average attention at all times. Hoping Irving shows up but not expecting him to with that injury it might be another two weeks. IMO pressure up the middle will make a huge difference in this game. Jason Peters got rolled up on late in the game on Monday, he will be listed as day-to-day, but if not this is major.

..Same plan that played Vs NO. Cover tight, get pressure, watch for screens.
Philly's offensive personnel is really different from the Saints'. The receivers (Jeffery, Ertz) are much more physical, where the Saints are much more about speed/quickness, and much less of the Eagles' passing offense goes through the RBs. Obviously, "cover tight, get pressure, watch for screens" are things you try to do against all teams, but it's not exactly a plan. A plan is: put Jourdan Lewis in at a LB spot to cover Kamara on third downs. I need to go back to the previous game to see what we did with Ertz: whatever it was, it didn't work. The real wild card this time is Tate: he wasn't at all integrated into the offense the last time we played, but he sure was last night.

Do the same as Dallas has done in the past couple of games. Play 100% energized football. All 11 players running to the ball/player. Execution. Play with a vengeance.

And, someone remind Gregory, while up by a score or two. STAY AWAY FROM THE PUNTER.

14-145, 2 TD
Thanks, Capt Obvious. :)

We shut down the number 1 offence on Thursday. We can do it again. Smith will be back, he will help the O. We win by 10.

I do think Brees not being very mobile helped our defense because we could get some interior push. With Wentz, we'll have to worry about him escaping and scrambling. Our defense might not look quite as dominant against the Eagles as it did against the Saints, but hopefully it will be enough if the offense has a decent game.

I hope the Cowboys did not make the Saints game their SuperBowl. I hope they give this game the same focus they gave the last. I do not think the Eagles team we see Sunday will be the same one the Cowboys beat a dew weeks ago. For the Cowboys to win this game they will need to score more points than they did against the Saints. The Eagles secondary is banged up. Dak must take advantage of it with Cooper and Gallup.

Didn't Byron Jones shut down (or at least limit) Zach Ertz in some of our previous year encounters when we (stupidly) had him at safety? I seem to remember that he did a pretty good job when matched up.

I know Jeffrey, Tate, and Sproles are all dangerous weapons against our defense, but my #1 concern on their entire offense is Ertz. He's Wentz's first option on most passing routes, I'd wager.

I'd rather have Byron on Ertz than anyone else on our secondary (as much as Vander Esch has come on, it would be too big a challenge, and I know we have the GOAT at safety, but ...). I don't think we lose that much in WR coverage with our CB depth by giving Jones up to travel with Ertz. Other posters are right - Richard does not like to travel his secondary. But if it were me, I'd do this facing the Eagles (Ertz) and Patriots (Gronk).

And I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night!

:p

I agree. If we have the firepower to stop a historically great offense. Philly shouldn't be too concerning.
