Defense after 2 games

I’m honestly more concerned about the defense after today’s game than I was last week.

I dogged on the defense last week because they deserved it, but I was hoping they’d show improvement. I just didn’t see it. I saw more intensity from that group, but the actual performance was still really bad.

Gashed in the run game. Zero pressure on the QB. Couldn’t contain the QB whatsoever. Eberflus type soft zones giving up 3rd and longs. I see two horrible defensive performances, one the offense was good enough to bail them out from.

We are on the same wavelength bro. Cuz I was just fixing to edit my Same here post with an additional "Thats because last year is their measuring stick reference point."

And for some odd reason they must do some kinda self talk reassurances in their mirrors to convince themselves that it's any better.

Me personally, I ain't seeing it.

I’ll say this with vets out on defense I can at least justify sucking but at least building towards something. I think Barnham and Downs flashed.

Lawrence had a couple positive plays too. I think Barham will be a good player once he gets in shape. Downs is a stud already. But I was surprised by how explosive Lawrence looked on a couple plays. I think the light might come on sooner for him than we expected

Some positives from today for me. We did communicate better. We’re more physical. Barham and downs played fairly well.

I did think Parker brought some pressure packages second half. Mariota just eluded some of them. So that was a nice adjustment.

Overall it’s a work in progress. Was the defense bad again yes… but at least there were some positives.

so the Titanic takes an extra hour to sink?

Cowboys signed Jalen Thompson in free agency and hired a 1st time defensive coordinator.

Then 90% of the fanbase declared the defense was vastly improved.

I'm amazed at the poor tackling....and not being able to sack the QB when it's right there.

First off glad we got the W. Now with that being said, our defense has to get better at communication. There is no excuse for receivers to running down the field wide open. Secondly, our DE have to do a better job of not leaving running lanes vs mobile QB's. Too many times they rushed upfield and it created lanes for J5. Tackling at the POC, we have to do a better job of bringing down the ball carrier and preventing that extra 3-4 yard gain. I feel Barham did ok, Caleb had 1 mental lapse on the 1st td, but played a very solid game. Revel, is going to have to tighten up at cb too. Overall, hopefully the defense improves with more games with live action, due to most guys not playing preseason.

When they weren’t any receivers open they run and it doesn’t seem we have a spy to contain them
We were close to getting Daniel’s a few times in the first half but he managed to escape

I'm really disappointed in the even when the pass rush starts affecting a quarterback. They miss a lot. They whiff too much. They treated these quarterbacks like they just stand in the pocket and don't move too often going way around the quarterbacks you're not going to catch some of these quarterbacks from behind. You can't. You can't give them a huge Lane to run through

Not gonna lie….the pass rush sucks and they just sit back and not get pressure. Daronte Jones is facing a similar issue with the Commanders but he cooks up blitzes which that’s his game and where he came from with Flores.

I think Parker deserves time to cook I just don’t know how long this team can wait. I at least want some stops.

Yeah, very disappointed with our rush, especially the play from our DTs….way way overpaid for what they are showing thus far. They played better second half, but they got a long way to go. Are we maximizing how we use Q? Dude has potential to be a dominant player who get pressure, he’s better than this.

Mobile QB’s have hated the boys since Randall Cunningham.

so do you have your ends keep him in the pocket and rely on the guards? Or do you let him escape to the outside.
