This offense is not going to outscore your laziness and lack of concentration.

We will STILL score 24 points per game. But the pace and rhythm of how we score will change. Special teams must be ready to cover punts and kicks

Defense must stay focused as the offense is putting together 7+ minute drives

Offense must minimize penalties for 7+ minute drives to stay alive

FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS!!!

 Ummm are you talking about the preseason defense or the defense from last season? If the defense we saw in the preseason is an indication of what is to come than I am going to be excited about this years D. I do agree the ST needs to step it up.

Probably D and ST as a whole.

I think we will have a more ball controlled offense so if the D and ST does it's job we should be pretty good overall.

Main thing I want to see the defense do better in is forcing turnovers. Overall the Dallas defense played well last season but just did not creat turnovers. As for special team I agree with you 100%

I am talking about the defense we have seen here in general the last few years.

See if we want to play a style similiar to the Steelers, or Ravens or Giants....our ENTIRE team needs to understand that going into the season and of course the games.

The Ravens and Steelers tell teh offense to give them 14 - 17 points, and they will take care of the rest

It is quite miraculous that we have won as many games as we have one when we are almost dead last in penalties, are terrible on special teams, and have given up 25+ points WAY TOO MANY TIMES. But a part of me believe this defense (including Wade) knew the offense could bail them out. If you think about it...he specifically went to the defense before the Tampa game last year and told them they had to win the game for us because it was a must win game and Brad Johnson was a corpse.

But holding teams to 17 points needs to be our goal for the season...not select games.

We tried to play this way against the Giants in 2007 playoff game. The offense held up its end of the bargain...if the defense does not give up up an 80 yard drive and 7 points in 60 seconds, we likely win that game

If we do not commit a ton of penalties, to the Giants like 1 or 2 (if my memory serves me correctly) we win that game.

If we don't let RW McQuarters return a punt deep into our territory we win that game

I really think our defense (coaches included)...thought the Giants were going to try and play for a FG or take a knee at the end of the first half. But an attitude adjustment needs to occur. If we are going to hold the ball for 10 minute drives...teams are going to try and score every time they get the ball...because they know there touches and TOP will be limited.

Our defense is better than it gets credit for. Its problem is that it's put in low-percentage situations too often by poor special teams play and, last year, turnovers. Conversely, it doesn't come up with the takeaways to put the offense in good position. The result is, we end up playing low-percentage ball on both sides with a special teams that gradually makes the situation worse.

I have no doubt that if we curbed turnovers and penalties on offense and kept the defense in situations where it could dictate to the offense that our points-against number will drop significantly.

We finally have a FG kicker, KO specialist and punt specialist. Our special teams is much better then it was.

I agree but I still saw the occasional break downs in the coverage team. Hopefully now that we have settled on the 53 man roster and the units are set we will see fewer break downs in coverage

New players, new coach, new schemes and preseason.

Now...one also has to take into consideration that there are going to be brain farts by players. There will be the odd bounce of the ball and other situations.

What I am hoping for is consistent good play and I won't mind a screw up once in a while.

I think too many times people think a team is going to play perfectly every week with no penalties, no busted plays, no mental errors. It is something a team should strive for but I don't care how good a team is...they are going to have an occasional screwup or busted play. It is just going to happen. We just need to limit those to an acceptable number and they have not been acceptable over the last few years.

We saw in the preseason on ST that there were some busted plays, penalties and mental errors but as a whole the ST play was much better compared to the last few years.

I guess we will have to wait and see. I think ST will be much better this year but we will have those situations where we give up a big play or make a bone head mistake. We just gotta hope that those are limited and the good outweighs the bad compared to the last few years.

I agree the unit showed improvement and the break downs in pre season with different players coming in and out can and will contribute to the break downs and or as you put it brain farts. This Sunday the unit will get their 1st chance to show they are a much improved unit.

I agree...but hold a team to a FG a little more often. That is what the GREAT defensens do. Why not start to EXPECT this defense to be Raven or Steeler like. A definsive minded head coach...1st round picks galore on defense. Time to demand more on a game by game basis....not just the TB game where we knew Brad Johnson was a corpse. I think they can do...especially if they knew the offense was not going to put on a show. Well they need to act like 17 points is all they are going to get from the offense from week to week.

Well for starters McBrair is healthy and we have Buehler getting touchbacks. So that automatically will improve the Special Teams tremendously.
