Defense Is Needed!

DT is not a priority. If we keep McClain then i think DT falls way down the list. Of course u take one if they are too good to pass up. our needs in order are DE, CB, WR. Need pass rush, Need someone aggressive enough to actually make a play on the ball, Need an upgrade at WR to help keep the defense off the field even more.

I will ask you a question about the Packer game. Roger had two ways of moving out of the pocket on a scramble to pass. Both required that the center of his line did not move. If the DE came inside the OT pushed him further inside trapping him there and the DT could not follow. When the DE rushed to the outside the OT pushed him around the pocket and Roger step into the pocket and threw or scrambled out to pass. The main flaw was no pass rush up the middle allowing Roger to operate at will. It was not until the Cowboys played press defense in the second half that the time ran out on Roger and he made mistakes.

So, unless the Cowboys fix the problem of a pass rush up the middle we can expect the same tactics next year when teams analysis how to defeat the Cowboy defense.

Moral of this story is that the most important position to fix is the middle of the defense to apply press on the QB. I say the DT is the most important, and if not number one then you will need to draft a lot of number ones to make up the difference.

As much as defense is needed, the Cowboys need to keep going BPA. Accepting an average DE over an elite TE for example would not be bueno no matter the need for defense. Only if that defender is comparable, THEN yes, I agree. Go after that defender.

I agree. Some are going overboard with the want of a 1st round DE. May be best to take the WR, TE, or CB with the 1st round grade instead.

Collins just had an awesome season and that was without participating in training camp or pre season. He came in and made a name for himself. He showed why he was being talked about as a 1st round talent before the scheme change at Nebraska. McClain was also a terror in the middle. Lets develop Collins. And i said If McClain is brought back then it really falls off down the list. If he is not then obviously DT becomes a need. Its not our top need though still. This is not really a good draft to be in need of a DT. Their are some pretty good day 2 DT's but im not going to reach for a 1 tech DT if a WR, CB, or DE with a 1st round grade is available because at the moment their are no DTs with 1st round grades other then Malik McDowell who may go top 20.
