That was the most noticeable difference overall. A crisp defense, pretty much until the last half of the fourth quarter and our players were the guys on the bubble.

D-

When players aren't overthinking assignments, they can focus on executing and making plays.

Agreed Defense has a renewed vibe, liked the STs coverage Units as well, much improved.

Agreed. Looked pretty good even without any of the starters in.

I saw a group of guys that were hustling to the ball every play. There were quite a few times when 2 and 3 guys were making a tackle.
The return of the 4-3 will make a positive impact on us this year. I think the assignments are simple and to the point which should allow them to line up and play straight up and not have to worry about all the smoke and mirrors that have been a part of the gameplan in past years.

Rob Ryan was too exotic... Back to just beat your man and execution of the plays with Kiffin and Marinelli.

A D- is a bit harsh for guys who do not start, not to mention camp fodder. They were flying to the ball and did not look confused. I would give them a B+ considering who was out there.

dwmeyers actually puts 'D-' after all of his posts, you would have to ask him why but I guess thats his signature per say.

That wasn't meant as a grade.

I thought the defense played pretty aggressive overall which was a good thing. We played pretty well on about 80 percent of the defensive snaps. But about 20 percent of the time we seemed out of position. If we can improve to where we are consistent the whole game this defense could easily be top 10. But if we continue to have lapses on the other 20 percent of the snaps we will still be in the bottom half.

Looked good. Still plenty of work to do, but I like the hustle all game. You can see Marinelli's stamp on the DL.
You can say the Miami OL stunk and it may be true, but our DL whooped them man on man, no stunts or schemes. That's encouraging.

First and foremost we got turnovers something you couldn’t say too often in recent years.

I’m hoping this is an indication of things to come.

Slants were wide open all night. Tannehill can't hit the broad side of a barn. Good thing for Dal def. The throws that Miami did complete gashed us. Safeties and CBs are not passing their man off quick enough yet on slanting plays. Wilcox looked lost and was standing still way too much. Same for Webb and MJ. I did see a couple coverage pressures and sacks, though, to their credit. The main problem was the big gashers on slants that I saw.

They had plays of 45, 25, 27, 24 and 21. Those are too big for a cover 2 Defense.

Selvie and Pendleton may have something to add to this team.

On offense, I love love love love love the cutback running lanes I saw.

I too saw the that. They were certainly swarming the ball a lot more and hustling which is something you didn't see much of in the past. You can tell they are being coached to more aggressive out there and to play more up tempo. I really like it.

Getting the lead, essentially with turnovers, took their running game away---they were finding room to run off tackle as we were not securing the edge well.
Seems as if the corners were releasing the wr inside on the slants but getting no LB or S help inside.

....he was exotic, but still couldn't find creative ways to send heat.....in contrast to the Skins playoff game where they sent heat time after time right up the middle without an answer avail by us.......If Rob Ryan sent heat thru the season, it seemed as if the oppenents were ready for it and toasted us with it.

I am right there with you on defense. Collinsworth was talking up the defense all night but I did not see it. Like you said, too many big plays but no starters either so I am not worried but the hype was not warranted throughout the game. We were fortunate to come away with a win IMO.

Loved Selvie!
