Defense on the way to being dominant

For a while each game, teams are gashing us with nice runs, but by the end of each game, our defense is playing as if it has the potential to being very good. Stats are only a part of it, but right now, we are fifth in total defense in yards allowed. The 'D' should only get better as our young D lineman continue to grow.

Stats are nice. What I want is a D that can create game changing plays. That's when it becomes dominant. So far, we are just above average. Our stats are better because we played Tennessee and a RB-less skins. I am hopeful though......

I'm hopeful too. Making game-changing plays is part of a mentality. Seeing Bradie James cross the goal line yesterday was a welcome sight. He was already a vocal leader and now he has done it with actions.

Our best playmakers so far are Roy and A Glenn. They both have a knack for finding the ball. Pat Watkins' fumble return was a dandy, but what do I really want to see? Terrence Newman TAKE IT TO THE HOUSE!!! It is long overdue.

A better pass rush will result in more turnovers.

I love our secondary and LBs, but can anyone on our line create any pressure? I know its not exactly their job, but can I see one collapsed pocket? This defense is far from dominant right now.

They have to throw Tnew's way first.

Brady James had a pick and a TD yesterday. He dropped another one vs. the Skins.

What'd we have, 6 sacks against the Skins?

our D is coming along very nicely. hopefully it will improve each month as the season goes along which would be something great.

lets face facts... our D is most likely gonna put us in contention to be able to win every game, barring a huge meltdown by our O/Drew (ie. Jags)

most NFL teams cannot say that about their D

Bear in mind we beat a 0-4 Titans team and a Commanders team without Springs and Portis...

I'd like to see a consistent pass rush. It was decent but not great against Jax, great against Washington, and then non-existant against Tennessee until the end of the game. It kind of looked to me like Zimmer/Parcells were wanting to primarily containt Young running the ball so they sacrificed on some of the edge rush, which may have been smart. We did play good defense, but they're awful, so who knows.

That is exactly what they did. They took away Young’s strength and made him play to his weakness. To chase him around is to play into what Young does the best.

I'm so sick of some these fans bickering about the reason the Cowboys won was because such and such player wasn't there oh so now the Cowboys, must feal sorry for the Skins, and Titans now right just because there playmakers are injured do you think most Skins, or Titans fans would've care if any key Cowboys players got injured hell no.

So what make some of you believe that Shawn Springs, by himself is going to stop the Cowboys offense at Fed Ex, November 5, and don't give me that crap about the blitz happy Skins' D it's going to be a good game in D.C., but to say that Shawn Springs, will be this disruptor is a bit misleading.

Clinton Portis, when healthy is a top 5 back in this league he too can be stopped he's not immune to be tackled for a loss every now and then and he's just not going to run roughshod on the Cowboys' D, when he sees fit he may break for a couple of yards here and there but I'm not going to give the Skins, this game at Fed Ex, like some of you already are.

Yeah, I congratulate them on their victory yesterday against the Jags, whose not a very good road team to begin with it's a tricky league the NFL, they won against the Jags, and can lose to the Titans (by the way I don't see it happening with the way the Titans, are playing) just food for thought though.

We ended up getting some turn overs. But overall, we aren't causing enough havoc. The D needs to come up with big plays as well as big stops

You do understand containment D right, I hope you do because that what the Cowboys, did yesterday with Vince Young had it been Collins then we prolly would've gotten those sacks.

I would like to know what games you're watching because the front 7 of Cowboys can generate pressure maybe not get those sacks that you salivate over generating pressure is just as important as getting just sacks.

Pressure creates turnovers not sacks and the Cowboys, do generate pressure whether you agree with it or not offenses today are just to smart because most OCs tell their QBs, to take quick drops to get rid of the ball much quicker to negate the rush ala the Jags game that is why Leftwich, had success passing in the 2nd half of the game the Cowboys, and Parcells too said that they generated a nice rush against the Jags, and I say the same thing whether you agree with that or not.

Our secondary is what separates us with the other NFC East teams. It's a strength for us and an achilles heal for the other 3 teams.

Let's see.. Yesterday - Pat Watkins missed 2 INT's - Aaron Glenn had 1 INT and dropped another one - Bradie James missed an interception and possibly another one - Burnett had an INT opportunity, I think it was the second QTR and Young was in his own end zone, and was about to be sacked by Ratliff, and just tried to hit his RB standing there, but Ware blocked the pass and almost intercepted it in the end zone. But on that play, Burnett broke hard in front of that RB expecting the pass to get there, had it not been for Ware tipping the pass, Burnett would've intercepted it and walked right into the end zone.

Defense on the way to being dominant

I want to see them NOT get dominated up front in the run game before I say they're on their way to being dominant.

How many runs did Tenn start with? That was horrible.

Good thing is we won, and BP has something to thrash his team (defense) about.

Agreed 100%! One glaring thing I noticed yesterday was a lack of burst off the line.I started to think maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe the burstIwas looking for doesn't exist. Then I watched the Bears/Seahawks game and realized that burst DOES, in fact exist and we simply don't have it. Which is good and bad. Bad because it's the difference between a solid defense and a dominating defense. Good because, I think, it's something that can be worked on and improve an already solid defense that is enjoying some relatively dependable success.

How about two key interceptions, one for a TD, and only one TD allowed (thanks to a ticky-tack PI call)? Sounds kind of game-changing to me.
