If you had a choice of a great defense and an average at best offense or a great offense with an average at best defense, what would you choose.
I would take the defense because I have always liked watching defense .I enjoy the big hit ,sack or the INT more than I do a TD catch or run.

Really just put this out there because so much T.O. stuff thought a little change up.

IMO you always need a better defense then an offense, because if you can smother the other teams offense, they cannot dictate the game they want to play. So, you need a GREAT defense to win games, and an offense that can at least put up more points then what the defense DOES NOT allow the other team offense to put on the board.

Think Quincy Carter...he won 10 games for us...and what was the ranking of the defense at that time? Case closed...

I agree with you that you need a great defense but just to be devils advocate. When the niners had the great offenese led by Steve Young I did not think that team had a great defense.

There is nothing more humiliating/demoralizing than a defense that can't stop people.

Give me the defense every time.

1994 SB Niners

#1 Scoring O

#6 Scoring D

Pro Bowlers 1995: Merton Hanks (4 PB's), Tim McDonald (6 PB's), Deion (8 PB's), Dana Stubblefield (3 PB's).

Others: Eric Davis (2 PB's), Richard Dent (4 PB's), Rickey Jackson (6 PB's), Ken Norton (2 PB's), Lee Woodall (1 PB), (4 PB's).

Dallas D: Roy (3 PB's), Aaron (2 PB's)

Hanks had more than our current D all by himself.

Puts into perspective how much talent they had on that side of the ball.

Pass D:

YPA #6, TD's #3, INT's #3

Rush D:

ATT's #2, YPA #8

I wish our D had that many Pro Bowlers and former Pro Bowlers.

That's true...so I guess you cannot have both. That would be good to be able to have a good offense and a good defense...but?

Today's football is not like back in those days either, because of free agency...

I guess each team has to pick one side or the other to spend their money on...because nowdays...it's up to the coach.

I wasnt really talking just the superbowl teams but they did have some good players on defense no doubt

I'd go with offense because Dallas has always won SB's with great offensive players:

Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Drew Pearson, Tony Hill

Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith

The Doomsday Defense actually got its name long before we ever won a SB, but we never won a title until we had an offense that could outscore the other team.

Defense is fun, but when you have a great offense and the right type of players, there's nothing in the world like the great comeback drives to win the game.

Despite the fact that Witten is indeed an All Pro type player, he's not a take over the game, can't be stopped type TE, so despite all the ill-feelings, right now T.O. is the only championship caliber player on the offensive side of the ball. I love seeing our defense move in the right direction, but we won't be winning any Super Bowls, certainly not recreating any dynasties that remind us of the 70's and 90's until we start putting a few superstar/championship type players on the other side of the ball....imho.

Dominant D, and a really good OLine. The "D" will shut down high scoring teams, and your OLine will allow you to eat up small chunks of yards, slowing the game down, and having a chance to win every game.

I agree and I think and hope this is what Parcells is trying to accomplish and I know right now after 2 games it appears the Oline has a ways to go.

Personally I think the OLINE is much better than last years OLINE.

Remember Flo is in there now VS Tucker - Larry Allen was in there ( would wiff on faster Tackles and was not consistant )
Kosier is not as good in the running game, but when he gets out into the open field, he's dominant.

A.Johnson is good but not strong.. Gurode is having a pro-bowl year so far IMO.

Rivera is healthy and I'll take Columbo over Petitti any day.

Our "D" is powerfuly up front. We aren't letting teams consistantly gash us for 4 and 5 yards. Teams aren't able to go deep because of Watkins deep coverage and so we have the perfect compliment to be a Super Bowl team.

I think there are still questions about the Oline but I do think as the year gose on the Oline will get better and I do think it has dramatically improved this year .
