no offense but that’s a really naive approach. Works in the regular season, not in the playoffs

The teams that win in the playoffs score points. You will not hold every playoff caliber opponent to less than 20 points. It just is not going to happen.

Dan Quinn is overrated. I've grown to dislike him a bit...Kellen Moore and Mike Mccarthy make more with less talent and get 0 credit. Dan Quinn has a stacked defense and he gets praised. It also seems like he's trying his best to cut out best defensive player year short. Last year when Micah alternated he wasn't this banged up. When Micah misses a key game, and he will at this pace. Blame this idiot.

I think part of it was because our O was scoring so quickly and using the no-huddle. They were probably gassed. Injuries didn’t help either. But yes, it needs to be fixed.

also i think staying commutes to the run despite being down multiple scores factored in

I’m going to have to check, but I’m 99% certain Eli Manning never had to score more than 21 points in both of his super bowl runs.

Coincidentally, the greatest offense of all time only scored 17 against them in the super bowl and lost.

The phrase defense wins championships isn’t just fluff. It means you need to have defense to survive the gauntlet of the playoff tournament.

The Bears have a weird offense. Everything is centered around the run. Not happy with the points given up but overall the Cowboys adjusted well enough defensively to win. Especially given the fact they were basically out of safeties by the end of the game.

Not really.

It's more like our fans aren't willing to give Chicago's offense credit for their performance today.

They ran in situations where they should have passed, and that's a big reason why they were having "success."

Really, though, it's all situational, as far as the schemes they were running..

That, and without Zeke's steady runs, the defense didn't have as much time to rest, because we'd score and then they were right back out there again.

Obviously, some have never played a full 4 quarters to know what that's like.

Defenses will get beat. That's why you have an offense.

And our offense is trending up. Just now starting to gel.

Gallup really wasn't supposed to be back until this game anyway.. or maybe even after the bye. But he's starting to come into his own, now that he's had sufficient time to recover.

The Bears have the #1 rushing offense in the league, fell behind, and completely abandoned the pass for some reason. I think we were willing to continue to let them run while down 20.

I’m not too worried. Scrambling QBs give them fits because the Dline is so focused on getting in the backfield and doesn’t play with spectacular lane discipline.

Hopefully this just gives them an opportunity to see some more film on how they can play the QB run better.

Outside of that, I wouldn’t look too much into this. They still made plenty of plays and Chicago got spotted a TD because of that horrible roughing the passer call. Not going to hold every team under 20 every week.

Thank You. It's nice to read an informed post.

You can always find an exception, but by and large the teams that win score.

Yes you need defense and we've got a pretty good one here, but it is unreasonable to expect less than 20 points allowed in all 17 games.

It's not naive. What is naive is thinking that the defense is going to totally shut down every offense it faces, especially ones predicated specifically on running the ball heavy with RPOs and designed runs. They won by 20 points because the offense came to play and kept the pressure on Chicago all the way to the finish.

Agreed with you. They came in with the #1 Rush offense and a hell of an athlete at QB. It wasn’t going to be easy.

The rest of the way, they get Hurts who can run. Jones and Tannehill can make plays. But outside of Hurts, you won’t see that type of play even in the playoffs

At least you didn't out yourself as a band nerd and talk about how LVE is trash, when he actually had an excellent game.

That’s not what I’m saying though.

I’m saying this defense has shown a pattern of vulnerability against the run— not just today’s performance.

There were times last year the pass rush looked almost as dangerous, the DE’s almost as athletic.

If they don’t tighten up, they’re not going anywhere.

Justin Fields is going to be a hell of a player.

Someone was trying to tell me Jalen Hurts is better than Fields, which won't be the case in the long run.

Very fair. I'm not ready to hit the panic button yet and I think they have done enough against the run in most games outside of this one. The Chicago offense is very strange and continued to run all game even in obvious passing situations while down 20 points. The Chicago rushing offense is #1 in the NFL for a reason.

And Chicago isn’t a playoff team.

Look I’m not saying that they’re not allowed to have a bad game. I’m saying the defense is pretty vulnerable to rushing attacks.

It is 100% naive to say “oh we’ll just put score them” in the playoffs.

Even the best offense of all time couldn’t just do that.

I think a very good running team was across the field. They used misdirection plays and other little gadget type plays against our defense as well as a shifty fast running qb. Defense played a heck of a game against a worthy opponent. Gave up plays but didn't breakdown completely. We won so enjoy it. Yes, Quinn has some things that needs fixed on the bye week.

Good post.

Had the same problem against the Eagles so this is not it. They have issues with RPO

The nfl is a 66% - 70+ % throw league .

we went all in on pass rush - this is who we are .

can’t fix this with a trade
