Love what they have done so far paying some loving and Cap for our defense!
Byron is a must sign here and then I feel the pieces are in place for our Defense to keep us winning and just might make the difference come playoff time.

Can this team become the 2000 Ravens?
Could be could be......

Do you got any rough/ ballpark numbers on the #31 ,in what his projected, upcoming contract amount should be/ in what's being floated out from his camp, Pappy-D?
* I'm not really wanting to follow it or any of them all that much, after that bizarre affair of the #90's right shoulder having been "held up,tied up, taken away& held for ransom" I mean, like really dude,,, what's gonna top that negotiation employed tactic, Ya know? It's all anti- climactic from here on out,,,o_O

I would be cautious with Byron. Why? The way he played the last few games of the season. Yes....we now know its because of the injury that he recently had surgery for but what if the injury has lingering affects on his play. Sure we had a similar situation with Tank but with BJ we have a an opportunity to see how the injury heals before extending him.

I think he should be a top 10 paid corner, preferably around #6-10.

He was a mediocre safety most his time here so far, he played about 12 great games at corner back. He ended the season on a not so great note.

Give him maybe a 2-3 year contract and let him earn his big payday.

He will be looking to cash in. I don’t see us keeping him but hope we can find a way. They are going to need to stagger these big contracts. Plenty of them coming. I think Jaylon is a bigger need than Byron.

Logistically, the Cowboys have the potential to be loaded with defensive talent that takes them to the next level, however comparing them to the historically great 2000 Ravens team is absurd at this point.

I think out of all the starters on that defense, only 2 or 3 of them weren't first round picks. Like us, they were really strong at linebacker, but their secondary also knew how to take the ball away.

If the offense can fix the problems in the red zone that alone really improves this team. If they can be a bit less predictable then you get more big plays
On defense played well last year till the Rams game. In that game I think they feared the pass so much they forgot about the run and they never figured out that the rams were keying on their stunt
If the D plays as well as last year and adds a few turnovers
If the offense fixes the red zone and puts pressure on opponents to figure out what’s coming
This could be a very good team

Some good posts in this thread but the original premise I don't agree with. I used to think D=SB but not anymore.

Case in point the 2011 NYG. ranked 27th in D. The 2012 Ravens ranked 12th and 10 in ttl offense.

The 2009 SAints ranked 20th in ttl D (#1 in ttl O).

Now for sure we have the makings of a very good defense and I say a SB caliber D. We'll have issues with coaching and I say so because of how the LA Goats gouged us in the NFC Divisional PO game. Their OL was good but not great but they looked like the best OL of all time in that game.

The well rounded team with good coaching + getting hot at the right time = SB. (Need at least 2 of these 3)

I'm not sure about the defense winning SBs lead in. Even though the score was low in the last one, it was the NE offense that put the points on the board and won it. Not only that but the previous 3 SB's to that were high scoring affairs with 60 plus points scored in total. Yep, the D has to make a stop eventually or the last team with the ball wins. Takes both but the team that scores the most points always wins and unless it's a pick 6 on the last play it takes an offense to win it. Literally, not hyperbole

I have 2 maybe 3 things on this subject. 1st, we need to SCORE more in the red zones. We also need to make long, grinding possession's when we do, break down a defense and make them a non factor in the 4th when Zeke and maybe another RB can take advantage of it and just run them to death. I thought we were going to do that last season, but I digress. 2nd, we need MORE turn overs off the defense, that right there goes right along with my first statement. 3rd, we need a damn HC who does more then pull out his handy dandy collage doodle booklet with all 4 of his great, never seen before(yeah right) plays. This team needs to STOP being predictable, period. Let's see if this freshly acquired OC can bring something to the table, or is he just another of JJ's scotch drinking buddies.

it depends on what we do, whos a better coach, KM or KR. I feel KR will have this defense playig better but the offense needs to streamline a few things to get better. Garrett has to get this team firinng on all cyclinders, i still dont know why the ST coach is employed

There's alot of truth here.

Not yet Pappy, need the middle of the DL upgraded and Safety as well. 00 Ravens had Adams and Siragusa in the middle of that line and Rod Woodson at S. The Cowboys do not have anyone on the team that compares to those 3. They also do not have Marvin or Ray Lewis.

However, except for CHI, I don't see a D that could come close to the 00 Ravens and don't think they will either.

If the Cowboys can add a starter to this D in this draft and stay reasonably healthy, they can make some noise in the playoffs, providing they are in the playoffs.

At least he got his injury taken care of and did not hold it against the team until a deal is done.

The defense was great the first half of the season, then fell off considerably against a more difficult schedule of offenses.

Games 1-8
145 points on 83 drives
1.75 points per drive
(18.2 points per game)
Cowboys' League Rank
TD per drive 7th
Scores per drive 5th
Yards per drive 11th
Punts per drive 2nd
Turnovers per drive 23rd

Games 9-18
224 points on 99 drives
2.26 points per drive
(22.4 points per game)
Cowboys' League Rank
TD per drive 18th
Scores per drive 29th
Yards per drive 23rd
Punts per drive 30th
Turnovers per drive 14th

The average rank of the offenses faced in points per drive in games 1-8 was 19th, in games 9-18 it was 11th.
