Bromides mean nothing.

The Super Bowl. Your team has a four point lead and there is 1:42 left in the game. The ball is on the opponents 9 yard line and they are starting their final possession. Your defense prevents them from scoring a touchdown, defense won that championship.

The Super Bowl. Your team has the ball on its own 9 yard line as you start your final possession with 1:42 left. You are down four points and need a touchdown to win. Your offense drives the field and scores as the clock runs out. Offense won that championship.

Now people will chime in that they are speaking about the season. Defense needs to keep your team in the game. That is undeniable. No defense no win.

But as seen in the 2014 season for Dallas, the offense protected the defense by ball control, clock control, staying ahead of third downs and moving the sticks.

The defense had a hand in the season, but in this case it was not the defense that got them there.

And in the Green bay game it was a timid Marinelli that didn't blitz Rodgers into the stone-age when he started off wobbly and had no rhythm in the first half. But it was the offense that did not play their usual game and left the winning points on the field.

Defense wins championships is a comment which is very much like stats. It shows a slice of the information needed to determine what the outcome is. When that expression was made, the league was not a pass happy game that forced points down the opposition's throat.

Defense has a hand by keeping the team close. Offense is what ultimately wins in this game now days.

The problem with posts like these are the flawed presumptions....

What got us somewhere in 2014 was having a top 5 QB, a top 5 WR and the best ground attack in football.
EVEN with all that we couldn't get past GB.

a great passing attack minus rushing 'can' let you down.
a great rushing attack minus passing lets you down 95% of the time you face a good defense.

the only rushing teams winning the last decade have been QB rushing teams.

no team has been to the super bowl in a decade that didn't average 250 yards combined between rushing and passing from it's QB in the regular season.

The only difference between offense and defense is point of view. It makes no sense to say that one is more important than the other.

honestly this should be common sense.
the game is decided by the difference between offense versus defense on both sides.
a 50-48 win is the same as 14-12.

most people give edge to offense because the NFL has created offensive advantages galore so that the last 5 minutes of games are must watch tv.
sportscenter and the nfl network weren't built to showcase 3 and outs.

Maybe this is merely my wishful thinking but I'd kinda like to see us make up for the loss of our 2014 workhorse RB (Murray) with the draft selection of Derrick Henry in round two this year. Paired with McFadden, I think there's a pretty good chance he'd give our offense a much needed boost. We'll could use another RB to help take the pressure off Romo, much like what we had in 2014.

It dont matter how good the defense is, how many all pro's on the online. A healthy Dez and a bell cow rb. When you have trash playing QB... Get a good back up and a future rookie Starting QB... We gonna need them or we'll be picking 4th again next year...

They need to sign a vet RB like Lamar Miller and use the entire draft except for 3 picks on defense. Get a QB for the future, another WR, and an OL for depth and spend the rest on playmaking defenders.

We went 12-4 last year because we passed more effectively than our opponent 12 times -- and went 12-0 in those games. (Or 13 times and 13-0 if you include the playoffs.) There were four games when we didn't pass more effectively than our opponent, and we went 0-4 in those games. (Or five and 0-5 including the playoffs.)

This year, we passed more effectively than our opponent only five times -- and we went 4-1 in those games, losing only on a last-minute TD. We didn't pass more effectively than our opponent 11 times, and we went 0-11 in those games.

In our past 38 games, the team that has passed better is 37-1 (with the only loss coming on a last-minute TD). The team that has rushed better is 19-19.

We didn't win last year because of the running game, and we didn't lose this year because of any lack of a running game. We won last year because we usually passed better than our opponent, and we lost this year because we usually did not.

We rushed for 233 yards against the Giants and lost. We rushed for 171 against the Packers and lost. We rushed for 134 against the Eagles and lost. We rushed for 133 against the Jets and lost. Should I keep going? We averaged anywhere from 4.6 to 8.6 yards per carry in those games and still lost. Drafting a running back at No. 4 will be a complete waste if we aren't MUCH better at passing on offense and stopping the pass on defense.

Someone gets it.

There are much bigger issues than offense or defense with this team.

Thats my point and McFadden did it against staked fronts cause teams knew we couldn't pass

Yeah, my bad. I don't know what I was thinking. McFadden (formerly known as the Raiders 3rd running back on the depth chart) is the man. I don't know how I could have ever thought otherwise. McFadden for 2,000 in 15!!!

Myles Jack or Bosa in the first or another top defender... Henry in the second and I look at qb in the third. None of the qbs this year are considered all that special. Reinvigorate the running game, move the defense to top 5 and we should be back in playoff contention.
