Point being, I don't think this defense is really that bad. I think that's what the brass and Rob are thinking as well.

It really doesn't make any sense. The only new addition was Ball. Yes, Brooking was a year older, and we had no depth at that position, but we really had no injuries.

I love the ILB pick. We have needed depth and youth there for years.

I think Rob will turn this puppy around if only in mentality! I cannot wait!

People underestimate the FS spot.

Not mad. Maybe a little. Rex pulled a fast one on his twinkie!! I think Ellis is going to be a Leon Lett/Haynesworth Clone. Time will tell. We will find out on 9/11 won't we?

Ball's presence destroyed our secondary. Followed by a worse nickel defense with Brooking out there. Spears absence hurt us against the run. Brooking and James getting older also hurt us against the run. Spencer and Jenkins didn't play to expectations...

I think we were probably not as good as we thought we were and we're not as bad as we think we are.

Look at the Minnesota game. The defense fell apart in that game too.

Our blitz was predictable. Our pass rush was subpar. Our run defense was poor esp up the middle. Our secondary was hung out to dry and was subpar.

the playoff win vs. philly was a blessing and a curse. after that win, the team seemed complacent. even the game vs. the vikings was a sign of things to come. next year we barely practice tackling, wade was too comfy, and jerry was lazy in free agency.

a lack of leadership in the lockerroom didn't help.

2 things.

If you can't pressure the QB, or keep pressure off your QB, don't even show up.

Fix the passrush, all else will fall in to place.

We basically played with only 10 guys on defense (yes, Ball was actually that bad). When you play with 10 and your opponent plays with 11 week in and week out.............well, you are going to be last in the league in defense.

I saw the playoff game vs. Philly live, and I was immediately concerned by the reaction of players and coaches on the sideline (including Wade) when the victory was decided. Oddly, Garrett did not participate in the festivities.

I saw Joe D. pulling an imaginary monkey off of Wade's back, while other players did the same thing. There were too many fist pumps and high 5's. I knew we were toast the following week against Minnesota as I was leaving the stadium.

Fat, dumb and happy.

At the end of the Draft press conference, Garrett went into this at length, along with Stephen Jones.

Basically, they knew going into this draft it was slanted towards offense. They decided not to reach for defensive players and follow their board.

They also recognized (as they mentioned in the presser last night) that they would go the FA route to get R Ryan the guys he needed. FA was definitely part of the plan since they knew the draft was probably going to be more offense. Also, they wouldn't rule out getting more offensive players via FA either.

They obviously wouldn't name the players they were targeting, but they said that they had specific guy in mind. (I think the press was trying to get the name Huff out of Stephen Jones.) :D

I know a lot of posters are upset we used so many picks on offense, whether it's RB or WR, but it's really important to take note that from the Cowboys perspective that the draft is only part of the way they intend on acquiring talent this off-season. That's what they said.

The title of this thread is where to evidence lies within.. 31st in scoring defense... Wow, any reason why we were so bad??

The secondary, the DL getting no pressure to help a weak and horrible coverage skills secondary, that's why..

Teams toasted this defense because (1) lack of pressure from the defensive front, (2) Our back-end of the unit SS and FS..

Our corners never made me stand up and cheer either.. Jenkins flat-out quit on us, Newman has regressed due to age/injury and Scandrick is just mediocre at best..

No defensive help, ( unless Jerry has a plan for FA, like Huff, and Asomugha at corner, we're doomed for history to repeat itself.

Scoring points easily, and giving them up just as easily, ( somewhere in the game critical third down stops need to be made, not many happened a year ago).

My prediction is another 6-10 season as it stands right now, until otherwise proven to be changed through FA..

They stopped trying hard for one thing.

.........is a fact. They had no confidence in Wade and weren't playing hard during the losing streak: FACT.
