What can anyone say? Folks will argue they only gave up 13 points, but when it comes crunch time, they always choke(forth and 15 and they let a 5th string rookie QB, make a 26 yard throw....come on!!!) They did under Parcells, they did under Wade and they have done it under Coach P.

When the pressure of the game gets turned up, they choke. I don't know if the 4-3 or 3-4 is better, they both have their good points. But I think the real problem with this defense is........we haven't drafted good "football" players and surrounded them with good "football" coaches.

Hopefully this changes with the next staff, but come Jan 3rd, every defensive coach and 3 or 4 starters needs to be shown the door. It's past time to blow up the defense....players and coaches alike.

Considering the investment Dallas has made to the defensive side of the ball I'm extremely disappointed in them. I hope whoever takes over in Dallas shakes that unit up and get them to play to their ability. Heading into the season no one who covers the NFL expected this group to fail as miserably as they have.

If it were in my power to do so, I would do two things to help this defense. First I would replace the defensive staff, secondly I would draft some young men who play with a mean/nasty streak.

Craig

Fraly from Auburn. He is the definition of nasty.

Basically the same players on defense had a nearly dominant defense last year. What happened? Did key players suddenly become far less talented? I don't know the answer. Nether does the current staff nor did Wade.

Someone needs to find out. You can't change most of the defense overnight. Whoever comes in here will have to work with the majority of the current players next year and beyond.

It's Jerry's job to find the right man to do that.

There are a couple of personnel differences. On the surface, they didn't appear to be that big of a deal, but I'm starting to think that these were really bad decisions and have, as much as anything else, contributed to the defenses' poor results.

1. A converted corner playing free safety, and he wasn't all that great as a corner.

2. No nickel linebacker for most of the year, at least none that can cover.

plus a couple of guys such as brooking and newman really showed their age/wear and tear. this defense had good stats last year but if you think back the last 3 years, when we really needed a stop by the defense it didn't happen.
i'm envious of all the games that the stealers' defense wins for them, especially late in games.

It's hard to believe the nosedive of this defense. How many first round picks?

I would get a great FS, a massive NT, a good DE, and one more CB. And lots of competition for every single player, no passes, not even for Ware.

Oh, and a LB that can cover!

Basically a third of the defensive players on the team were new to start the year. Once you got past the starters, 70% or so of the reserves had no NFL experience.
