Defenses Best Game?

Arizona is (by record) the best team in the NFC. They can run, pass and pass for distance... they play strong D, especially against the run and they usually don't make mistakes to beat themselves.

With that said... I think this was the best game our D has played this year. Our offense did them NO favors and had them on the field to much, but they where getting after the QB. Holding up against the run... if we can get the Offense back scoring we might have a D we can lean on at times.

Not really needed to say, but we MUST beat the jags. This is going to be a hard fought game, but it will be a great way to get our "heads" right going into the bye week and give us some momentum coming out of the bye week.

I thought the defense did a decent job but offense gave them little help on the day. Sooner or later if you give a good team enough chances they will beat you.

Maybe that also has something to do with the Cardinals being the best team in the NFC...just a thought...

Agreed the O gave them no help yesterday, one of the keys to our early season success had been limiting the number of snaps the D was on the field. We certainly did not get that.

It was a good effort no question. Should get better as Melton and Lawrence improve and pray Carter can regain his form.

I see some silver linings in the defense. Melton is really coming around. I like how Hitchens has played. There is certainly a lot more team speed and hustle than in the past.

A couple of the issues I see is that:

1. The D-Line struggles to finish plays. They do get pressure on the QB, but can't quite bring the QB down.

2. The D-Line struggles to get a push from more than 1 player on pass plays. Sometimes Melton or Mincey or Crawford or Spencer will get some pressure on the QB, but the other 3 rushers are nowhere to be found and the QB is able to get the pass off.

I am a little concerned about Church. Like Broaddus said, teams are starting to work to get him in more 1-on-1 coverage and it shows

It definitely was NOT the defense that that lost the game. The pass rush was better and they held AZ to 14 points for most of the game.

I don't think the stats for the defense will look good in terms of 3rd down conversions allowed.

In terms of the future, the defense looks good if RoMc and T. Crawford are able to play.

Our D played a good game yesterday, but I think they played better against Seattle.

They were good against Seattle, but I think they were better last night...if for no other reason than the pick 6.

The defense has been solid week in and week out. You can point the finger for all 3 losses directly at the offense.

Your right and who would have thought that at the beginning of the season.

They gave the offense every opportunity to win this game. This loss is squarely on the offense. Well done yesterday, D.

I do think that before the season started, just about everybody would gladly have taken the performances on defense that we've gotten so far. After all, this defense was supposed to be the worst in the history of the NFL this year. I don't know, I just think that against Seattle, they swarmed to the ball and completely shut Wilson down. They gave up about 206 yds for the game, I think. Just my opinion, but that, to me, was their best game. Having said all that, I just hope injuries don't overtake them and they can keep their mental edge for the rest of the season. If they do that and Tony comes back and stays healthy, this team can do some damage.

Well, not to say "I told you so..."

But the whole offseason I said that Dallas' offense was the bigger problem than the defense last year, and I don't think I was the only one in that camp.

Hol' up hol' up.

You thought the offense was a bigger problem than one of the worst, if not the worst, defense in the history of the franchise? And the worst in the NFL?

I guess I'm just curious how you arrived to that conclusion.

Losing Crawford will be a huge hit. The defensive line became much more disruptive sliding him inside. The defense gave this team a chance against Arizona. Heck, it had outscored the offense for the meaningful portion of the game.

The problem with the O has been turnovers, they have scored points and moved the ball. I was really commenting on how much better the D has played then most expected, not on how poorly the O has played outside of turnovers.

They need to get a handle on the turnovers and the O will be right about what I thought they would be a top 10 offense.

This is with Romo playing obviously.

Basically, the offense did absolutely nothing to help the defense at all last year. This team never won a shootout - which seems to be the perception for how we won. In games where we needed the offense to help the defense - notably SD, DET, Chicago and NO - they were no-shows. The only game Dallas one where the opponent scored more than 30 was NYG in the home opener...and the defense scored twice.

The defense played well against KC (16 pts) Philly (3 pts) Was (16 pts) STL (7 pts) Oak (24 pts) Minny (23 pts) and dominated Detroit and GB in the first half.

On the flip side, Dallas' O was non-existent against KC, SD, NO, Chi, and Philly twice.

The offense couldn't stay on the field and control the clock, failed to even try running the football, convert in the red zone, or capitalize on good field position after turnovers. I think the only game you can really look at and say, "wow the defense blew that one" was Denver, who torched everybody. And that's probably a W if not for the late turnover.

Dallas was 3rd in redzone offense last season

I'm not seeing those catalytic plays from my boyfried RoMc these past 2 games. He may be breaking down as the season goes forward due to a lack of training camp and sitting around not expecting to play football this year. I hope he gets it together because we need game changers on the D. OScan is the only one I see consistently making plays. Like that play when he tipped the ball up in the air. Any other defense would have picked that play off. Maybe even run that into the end zone.
