Whoever is hired on as the new DC could probably be looking at a 1 and done situation! If McCarthy & Dak don’t get it done next year, which no one is betting on, they’ll both be gone and the new HC will want to bring in his own guys! It may work for a guy like Zimmer.

Well everyone except Caleb wants to go to Chicago! Having said that the NiL money is so good some of these dudes that aren’t good enough stand to take a pay cut in the NFL..

Assuming McCarthy is gone after next year, it doesn't mean the DC will be as well. Sure, the HC would like to bring in his own guys like McCarthy did with Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn and whoever is the new DC. Actually, when is the last time the HC brought in all of his own guys? I guess my point is that if the new DC ends up with a good D then he will be sticking around regardless of HC.

So its best to help your side of the ball that you get hired for while still hoping it tanks the team overall to get a shot as a HC next year.

My guess is that if McCarthy gets fired after next year, I seriously doubt they would promote Zimmerman to HC. If Dak & McCarthy are out the door together after next season they would likely look for the newest offensive guru. They’ll have plenty of CAP space at that point to bring in whomever they want

Or, Zimmer is the old veteran DC with head coaching experience that owners like to pair with young offensive minds. That's probably closer to what Jerry is thinking. Ride out next year before hitting the offensive reset button if it doesn't work. And let's be honest, it probably won't.

Dak has had EIGHT SEASONS to prove he can win big games and McCarthy has a 1-3 record in the playoffs in 3 seasons in Dallas. So your argument is that we need more of this? Everyone has a choke point (except the greats) & Dak has shown over & over that when the lights are the brightest he fads away! It wouldn’t have made a difference if we had Lombardi at the helm, bad QB play doesn’t overcome coaching in the NFL today.

Which Jerry HC hire since Parcells has been allowed to bring in his own guys? Garrett didn't get a choice, so what makes you think the next HC hire will get to?
