It’s also harder to build and a single weak CB compromises an entire defense because opposing play callers and QBs will hunt that player constantly.

You can scheme a bit to hide a single weak pass rusher, much more so than a weak link at CB

Agreed. Opposing teams can scheme around a player in the trenches or in the secondary. Now, if the front has multiple players who can be disruptive, then I would go with the front.

I am not suggesting that corners can cover forever. I am assuming that the front is decent & not giving QB's more time than average. In other words, I'm not assuming one group is totally ineffective when answering this question.

Its clear you need both a pass rush and a very good secondary.

Outside of a few times when the DL overwhelmed a poor O line like happened recently with Mahomes, you are not going to get enough pressure on a QB to do the job all with pressure.

Because against good O lines, you are only going to get real good pressure maybe a third of the time.

The rest of the time the secondary has to be able to cover long enough.

well said. you don't see O lines completely stone the D for extended periods on that many plays. even stopping or slowing the initial push still generally results in someone getting close to the QB in around 2.5 - 2.75 seconds so its not like QB's are getting to sit there for longer than coverage can hold up on a very large % of plays.
