Defensive Game Plan Giants

Spent more time thinking about this game than any all season and with good reason. So I thought I'd lay out and post a defensive game plan.
Offense to follow.

I'd like to see something a little different and I believe this idea would be right up Ryan's alley since he likes to create confusion and show odd fronts with plenty of guys standing up. BTW We seem to have gotten away from that and this would be a chance to go back to it.

I'd like to see some 2 DL 5 LB fronts as our 1st and 2nd down base defense for the majority of those snaps. Perhaps as many as 60%.

Ratliff and Coleman rotating with Hatcher and Lissemore. Lined up on the OGs for the most part.

Ware, Carter, Lee, James and Spencer. Ware and Spencer standing up in more of a traditional DE position and Carter, Lee and James 3 yards off the ball in a more traditional LB spot.
I also want to see a lot of Victor Butler mixed in here. This would allow us to move Ware off the DE spot and have him replace James as one of the MLBs.

What am I trying to accomplish here?
Speed Speed and more Speed.
Confusion for the make shift Giants OL.
And an invitation to run the ball more.

The Giants OL is the weak spot here and I want to attack it. Attack it with speed and defenders in positions they're not used to having to block.

The Giants are a weak running team and I want to bait them into running more than they planned to. Every time they run it, it's one less opportunity for that prolific pass offense to hurt us.

Out of this base defense, I wouldn't mind seeing only two pass rushers on some pass plays with 9 in zone coverage.
That would be a nice change up that's often more effective against QBs like Manning who seldom run or do much scambling.

A variation of this 2 man rush concept that would be very effective, would be a delayed blitz from 3 other front 7 defenders IF........Manning turns his back to the LOS after the snap to hand off or go play action.

On 3rd down, I'd like to see some 1 DL formations with Ratliff usually being the guy. Victor Butler and Spencer lined up as DEs and Ware in a rover type position moving all over the place prior to the snap. And Lee and Carter or Church at the LB positions.

60-70% of the time, we'll bring 4 rushers with Ware as the wildcard to perhaps create more one on one match ups for him.

On 30% or more of these snaps I'd like to see Ware take his rush lane along with Ratliff, but have Butler and Spencer peel off into coverage, again giving us 9 in coverage.

9 in coverage could be a real nice change up giving Manning some issues he's not used to dealing with.

2 pass rushers at first glance would seem like a nightmare. "Manning will have all day and eventually find someone".

Will he? With Ware and Ratliff as the rushers. Especially since he's one of the least mobil QB's out there. I want to see him sitting back there looking for a guy with 9 playing a zone. I really want to see him start to try and move left or right looking to buy a little time. He's one clumbsy SOB.

When we do go with 4-5 pass rushers, I want to often see an over load right up the middle. Again forcing Eli to move to his left or right.

Anything different than what we have rolled out there lately. I'm tired of seeing teams march up and down the field at will in the second half of games.

We were all over kolb in the first half last week, as we were against moore, but in the second half they both had ALL day

Here's a couple of things I'd like to see:

An overload blitz to the left side -- As I understand it, they're moving David Diehl back out to left tackle. Send Ratliff, Ware, Butler, and McCray all on that side on a blitz. Someone's going to get there.

An A-gap overload blitz -- David Baas, their starting center, is out. I'd test the backup by putting Lee, Spencer, and Brooking all in that A-gap. Maybe someone will bust through and instantly sack Manning.

Double corner blitz -- Newman can't cover, so just send him running right at Manning. Then, on the blind side, have Ball or McCray blitzing.

Move Ware around -- I think it's important to rush Ware from every possible direction. Don't be so monomaniacal; send him up the middle and from the strong side.

Stunt Ratliff at nose tackle -- Have him drop back into coverage while sending Brooking/James and Elam up the middle.

This is for the NFC East, folks. I know we've got three more games after this, but this is for the hats. I want to see a bunch of crazy ways to get to Manning. It's that crucial.

Good stuff....but Newman can cover.

Manning is having his best year, but their running game is weak.

I like the "guts" blitz idea and having Ware move all over.

Getting someone free up the middle is ideal, but I just want a heavy dose of pressure up the middle and Manning moving left or right most of the night. He's just not that agile.

I don't want him comfortable in the pocket and or stepping up in the pocket. That's where he's tough.
But I also don't want to see us blitzing too much. So you can't have it all. I prefer to get that pressure up the middle. And play a lot of zone behind it with 7 or more defenders.

What I would do is figure out what Manning's QB rating is rolling either left or right and then choosing to force him to his worst side.

Yeah, it's going to be critical to collapse that pocket like the Kingdome. I don't know how successful we'll be without Brent. It's not that Brent is that vital, but that he's another body we can rotate in there to keep our key rushers fresh.
