OK, which player on this current team has the most impact on the "strength" or quality of our defense?

'Tis a simple thread, but I want to hear what the defense junkies have to say about this.

95% of the upcoming responses will go something like this; "DeMarcus Ware."

I'll be the odd 5% and say Bradie James. He's the centerfielder of our D

I'll say Terrence Newman. Without a "lock down" corner, we lose our push up front and become vulnerable to the pass because we can't scheme the rush as well. It's a give take, but I believe it all starts with T New.

The obvious choice is DeMarcus Ware. Especially if he is moved around frequently to keep opposing offenses uncertain where he will line up. Ware is who opposing offenses will game plan for specifically.

But the real key is NT, it is THE pivotal position in a 3-4 D.

Well, the thread is basically asking which guy would our defense suffer the most from if he had to come off the field for a game. The answer is Demarcus Ware. We have other important guys on the defense, but there is not another one as important to the defense. I'm all for opinions, but anybody who watches the Cowboys knows this is true.

Ware, one of a kind player, they must account for him every single snap or he makes you pay.

Barring injury, he will go down as one of the greatest to ever do it. The kid is Canton bound, he's about to get paidddd, and you'll be hard pressed to find a better character guy than D-Ware.

If Bobby Carpenter or another LB steps up to have a good pass rush game, we're in business. But right now I think it's safe to close this thread down and just say Newman or Ware. But I argue neither does as well without the other.

I like the Bradie James post, too, tho.

If Sesenbaugh shores up the middle of the field he will be the final piece to a dominating defense with no weak links.

I'll go with Jay Ratliff. He consistently collapses the pocket and keeps the QB from stepping up, allowing the outside pass rush to be more effective. A fierce pass rush is the very foundation of the Wade Phillips 3-4 defense and helps ease the coverage responsibilities of both the LBs and the DBs.
