Other than Gregory and Smith, I really do not have any complaints about defensive personnel acquisition over that past three years. I would like to see some defensive blue-chippers picked in next year's draft.

The only thing that annoys me is this season really, we could have had both Mario Williams and Reggie Nelson on very reasonable contracts.

I also think Irving is going to be a good one at LE.

Perhaps you are right, but you can't pay everyone. Looks like they want to build via the draft now. We don't make the big splashes as much as we used to do.

Nelson and Church would have been an even swap on the cap. They went with Church because they were "comfortable" with him. Nelson and Jones at safety would have been a massive upgrade over the Wilcox/Church duo that was probably the worst tandem in the league.

I think everyone can agree at this point, Mario's modest cap figure would have absolutely been worth it.

I'm all for youth, but no team wins much of anything refusing to sign productive vets. Especially when you have just a few years with a generational type QB.

That will probably irk me for a while

Mario can be lazy, but when hes motivated hes an excellent defender.

With these additions to the D, and if the O can repeat for improve upon 2014, then the D will be better.
Maybe not top 10 better, but if they can get to #12 but play as a top 10 toward the end of the season and the playoffs. Then that could be great.

When your defense is as poor as ours, your franchise QB is aging, and you're wasting picks on players who can't play, then you have to look to free agency.

I'm not saying we need to go spend 14 million on a slightly better than average corner but we do need to be players for guys like Mario Williams.

In the last 5 drafts they have spent

2 - first round draft picks on the defense
3 - 2nd round draft picks on the defense
3 - 3rd round draft picks on the defense
6 - 4th round draft picks on the defense
1 - 5th round draft picks on the defense
3 - 6th round draft picks on the defense
7 - 7th round draft picks on the defense

25 picks on defense ..... 8 premium picks plus a very high talent DE in Hardy

In the last 5 years they have spent

3 - first round draft picks on the offense
1 - 2nd round draft picks on the offense
2 - 3rd round draft picks on the offense
1 - 4th round draft picks on the offense
3 - 5th round draft picks on the offense
3 - 6th round draft picks on the offense
2 - 7th round draft picks on the offense

15 picks on offense ...... 6 premium picks

And yet we continue to have one of the worst defenses in the league.

Its the coaching staff.

Last year, it wouldn't have mattered if Dallas had Denver's defense.

When you can't string two first downs together, your defense gets tired, frustrated, and hopeless.

Is our D really that poor?
People need to get off of this myth.

Last year the Giants D were as historical bad as our 2013 D when we trotted out what, 18 different DL. But yet we hear how good they are and will be.
How about the Rams, with 7 #1 draft picks on that Defense...where did they finish last year...oh, #13.....3...THREE places in front of us.....

Give these players a chance and see how they develop. Yes we all know we still need defensive help...but they aren't as bad as many make it to be.
